The Braves have claimed lefty Chad Bell off waivers from the Tigers, per announcements from the teams. He had been designated for assignment recently by the Tigers.
Bell, 29, has been knocked around in 69 2/3 MLB innings over the past two seasons. He has worked mostly as a reliever in the majors but has started for the most part in the minors. Odds are he’ll be seen as a lefty specialist or long relief possibility in Atlanta. Bell will presumably begin his tenure there on optional assignment.

Hallelujah….negates the chance of him coming back to the Tigers at some point. The man has proven abilities….in AAA…
bravesfan
Not really. His basic traditional stats aren’t impressive.

Doesn’t seem like the smartest move by the braves. I know we need bullpen help…. buuuuttttttttt the key word is help. Not, make it worse
southi
Why?
realgone2
Cannon fodder for the minors? He’s stats in the minors are not impressive and he’s been awful in the majors.
Phillies2017
He’s a lefty w/ decent control. That in itself gives a guy a big league career.
dugdog83
Yah let’s see what you say if he became a Philly.

Good riddance!

Finally I agree w someone on these chats. Don’t need this gas can!

The Braves think they can “fix” him.
casualatlfan
It’s honestly a “meh” move. Seems like he’s been somewhat unlucky overall due to underlying stats and FIP, so maybe he can turn out to be a usable LOOGY or middle reliever. If not, all the Braves gave up was a 40 man spot for a flyer. There really isn’t much more to say than that.
Disco Dave
nothing to see here….
diller79
There is no reason for Chad Bell to ever be in the majors
doxiedevil
Lifetime ERA 7:11, just go out and get someone who has a proven track record.
NotaGM
Better chance in Mlb than you.

Maybe the Braves management wanted a slurpee?
bravesfan88
Meh, looks like the Braves are hoping they can transition him into a LOOGY role at AAA.
They are most likely hoping with the move to the pen that he can focus more on sharpening his arsenal, and hopefully with only focusing on a couple of pitches and while pitching in shorter stints, maybe his stuff can play up…
Nothing more than some depth in AAA most likely, but over the years, the Braves have been good at identifying pretty solid lefties out of the pen…
Overall, meh..

Sam Freeman was a “Meh” pick up too. These types of moves happen all the time. Probably won’t amout to anything, but you never know. All you clowns saying they should go get a “quality” reliever, those aren’t just around every corner. The pen has taken form but you never know when you’ll need an arm and you never know who might become a dependable one. I’ll trust AA and our scouting department over a bunch of clowns on a sports website.

You sound somewhat triggered?

Anthopoulous loves to dumpster dive. This guy was buried at the bottom of it.
