The Rangers have acquired backstop Tony Sanchez from the Reds, both teams announced. Cash or a player to be named later will head back in return.
Once a highly-regarded prospect with the Pirates, the 29-year-old Sanchez has settled in as an upper-level depth piece. He’ll head to the Rangers’ top affiliate to take the place of Brett Nicholas, who was recently dealt to the Padres.
Sanchez has just 156 total plate appearances at the MLB level in four seasons of action, over which he carries a .257/.301/.375 batting line. He spent the bulk of 2017 at the Triple-A level with the Angels organization, where he posted a .272/.355/.374 slash with four long balls in 284 trips to the plate.

So.

“So.”
It happened. It’s obviously related to baseball therefore this site reported it. (At least it appears to be this site’s reporting as no other source is cited.).
Not sure what your problem is, you think this site shouldn’t have covered a baseball transaction? If so, then why, pray tell, are we here?

Whoah, wow, hey there. Take a deep breath, buddy.

And now, what’s your issue here?

Here is a guy that was drafted ahead of Mike Trout.
bigdaddyt
24 guys drafted ahead of trout, Don’t think Sanchez cares. Hopefully he didn’t blow through his draft bonus though
davidcoonce74
Yeah, the top 10 of that draft was pretty bad; after Stras it was Ackley and Donovan Tate, Hobgood, Sanchez…Zach Wheeler, Jacob Turner….Leake had a decent career. Minor and Storen had decent careers. Most baseball drafts are like that though; there were a lot of reasons why 23 teams passed on Trout, in no small part because he was playing in a cold weather state and scouts just didn’t get as many looks at him. 5 of the first-rounders in 2009 have played in at least one all-star game.

Thanks John Madden! Now here’s a guy that when he runs….he goes faster!!

I feel like Carson Kelly is gonna end up like this and Andrew Knizner will be the cardinals future catcher.
holecamels35
As a Pirates fan, he was never highly regarded, he was just drafted high but never really shown much or had expectations sadly. Total waste of a pick.

At least he was no Brian Bullington.

What happen to victor black ?
bush5104
Vic Black retired from baseball a few years back.
mlb1225
He hasn’t played MLB ball in a few years, but he was signed by an indy league team in pre-season.
matanzas1962
Taylor’s career went haywire when he was involved in a fight and landed on his left shoulder not because he was not able to perform. He never had the chance because of the injury. By the same token, we will never know if he would have performed at all if healthy.

In one of his chats on FG, Eric Longenhagen wrote something along the lines of…
“Fun fact: The Pirates would have selected Mike Trout at #4 if they didn’t cut an under slot deal with Tony Sanchez.”
I consider this to be one of the least “fun” facts ever.
Danny Moskos was the original sin. Littlefield and Co. drafted a reliever with a #4 overall pick instead of Matt Wieters. Passing on Wieters caused them to reach for a catcher and take Sanchez.
davidcoonce74
That’s interesting. Reading reports from scouts at the time, the ones who had actually seen him play were convinced he could be a really good player, but because Trout didn’t play in showcases he was facing far inferior competition. Also, more than a few scouts were worried abut his body type- that he was built more like a football player and might outgrow his athleticism. Ah well, we can’t pick ’em all right.

Rangers acquire catcher Sanchez. A fella can dream…
