The Yankees announced today that they’ve placed right-hander Adam Warren on the 10-day disabled list with a back strain. The move comes in conjunction with the promotion of fellow righty Jonathan Holder, who’s being called upon to reinforce the bullpen. It’s yet another unfortunate development for a Yankees team that’s seeing its disabled list grow larger and larger; notable players among that number already include Tommy Kahnle, Greg Bird, Brandon Drury, Clint Frazier and Jacoby Ellsbury. The club is already facing harsh criticism from its fans and the city’s media outlets for its mediocre start, particularly in comparison to the division rival Red Sox, who are off to a historically hot 17-2 start. The growing list of injuries certainly won’t help their situation.
More injury-related items from around baseball…
- In a still-developing situation, Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports tweets that White Sox reliever Danny Farquhar has been hospitalized and is undergoing a series of tests. According to Nightengale, there’s a possibility that Farquhar has a serious injury following passing out in the club’s dugout. We’ll have more in this unfortunate and scary situation as it continues to develop.
- James Fegan of The Athletic notes in his latest piece that White Sox right-hander Carlos Rodon is set to begin pitching some games in extended spring training soon. Rodon hasn’t pitched since undergoing an arthroscopic shoulder surgery late last year, but he’s reportedly set to throw a sideline session with pitching coach Don Cooper at some point this weekend before heading back to Arizona. His presence will certainly be a boost to a largely-inexperienced White Sox rotation that’s posted a 5.99 ERA so far this season.
- According to Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun, Orioles slugger Trey Mancini’s knee is still “really swollen” after colliding with the wall in foul ground during yesterday’s game. X-rays and a CT scan came back negative, so Mancini and the Orioles are hopeful that he can avoid a DL stint and return to the lineup in a few days’ time. He’ll sit out today’s contest against the Indians, however.

Rodon is a left hander first off and secondly they literally had to carry Farquhar out of the dugout last night. Wasn’t like the typical passing out for 20-30 seconds and then they regain consciousness. Very scary and wondering what happened. Prayers to his friends, family & teammates!

Yes. According to reports Danny still hadn’t regained consciousness while in the dugout but did so before he was transported to the hospital. Here are more details of what transpired from the White Sox official website: mlb.com/whitesox/news/danny-farquhar-faints-in-whi…

Breaking update: The White Sox announced on Saturday afternoon that reliever Danny Farquhar suffered a brain hemorrhage as a result of a ruptured aneurysm during Friday night’s 10-0 loss to the Astros, and that he is in stable but in critical condition in the neurosurgical ICU unit at RUSH University Medical Center. mlb.com/whitesox/news/danny-farquhar-critical-afte…

Hopefully the tests on Danny Farquhar will prove negative or at least point to something that can be treated before anything worse happens. Darryl Kile was less fortunate back in 2002 when he passed away in his sleep from a sudden heart attack in his Chicago hotel room as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals during a series versus the Cubs.
Best wishes to Danny and his family.

Reminds me more of J.R. Richards. Prayers.

New reports say Farquhar is in critical but stable condition after suffering a brain hemorrhage yesterday. Very scary. I think a lot of us assumed it was just dehydration or something minor yesterday… Terrible terrible news really.

Lots of prayers!

Lol at the Yankees and all the media dopes who picked them just because they were gifted Stanton. Their pitching was in worse shape than last season but what difference does that ever make?!
Adam6710
They were 1 game away from a World Series just 6 months ago. That’s why many people picked them as favorites for this or that– acquiring Stanton was a bonus. If their bullpen had performed as they looked on paper, things would be very different; four of their losses are because of a surprisingly vulnerable bullpen.
But keep laughing, if that makes you feel better about yourself. The Yankees will be just fine, as will the media, and so will I as a Yankee fan, whether they win this year or not. They’re still a fun team to root for.

Injuries are part of the game. Every team fights through them. Boston finally has their starting staff, Pedroia is still out and Bogaerts got injured two weeks ago. You try to build depth and perhaps the Yankees touted minor league system will come up big either in pinstripes or as trade chips. Still a long season.

Hoping Farquhar can pull through.

The Sox need a lefty starter badly. Here’s hoping Rodon gets back soon, but I am definitely not holding my breath. This guy has not done the job yet due to injuries. We need him to step up to somewhere near his potential.
ASapsFables
Amen to that. In addition to young right-handed starters Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez and Carson Fulmer on the MLB active roster, the top 5 White Sox rotation prospects are Michael Kopech, Alec Hansen, Dylan Cease, Dane Dunning and Spencer Adams who also throw from the right side.
Some of these pitchers may ultimately find a home in the Sox bullpen along with more hard throwing righty prospects who are being fast tracked to the big leagues: Zack Burdi, Ian Hamilton and Tyler Johnson.
I still hold out hope for Carlos Rodon who does have ace potential with a plus plus slider and a mid-90’s fastball. When healthy he has shown flashes of brilliance in the White Sox rotation. He first needs to get healthy and then continue to work on his fastball command while also perfecting an improved changeup.

I saw that Mancini injury live and I was so scared…thankfully nothing too serious. It was a good sign to see him able to walk off the field. Knee injuries are really bad sometimes.

I think the real mistake that happened was the Yanks didn’t resign Todd Frazier. He gave them alittle boost at the end of the year. U can’t discount that. The media and ppl complaining about there slower start is kinda ridiculous. Yes they r 500. But we r a month in and there’s some new parts. With all the injuries and Stanton starting sloooow u can expect this start. And historically the Yanks usually start the season slower. Red Sox hot start may b worrisome to a lot of Yanks fans. But not this one.
