The Orioles have designated outfielder Jaycob Brugman for assignment, per a club announcement. His roster spot will go to righty Chris Tillman, whose signing was announced.
Baltimore had picked up the 25-year-old Brugman earlier in the offseason after he was designated by the A’s. He had been expected to compete in camp for a reserve role and perhaps still will if he clears waivers.
Brugman posted a .266/.346/.343 slash over 162 plate appearances last year. He also owns a .289/.353/.410 composite line across 605 total trips to the plate at the Triple-A level. Regarded as a solid corner outfield defender who’s capable of spending some time in center,
The O’s are said to be looking for a lefty-hitting outfielder, but evidently don’t expect Brugman to be their best option. It seems rather clear at this point that the club has every intention of bringing in a veteran from outside the organization.
Hopefully they are able to keep him. Be a shame to have someone with a semblance of on base ability on the team.
Who needs runners on base when you can just hit the long ball?
Sarcasm runs amok with Oriole fans. Not looking for a young left handed outfielder who can get on base. Is Orsulak available? Trade Castro for him.
Colby Rasmus-there you go.
Another young pitcher wasted to get another unnecessary backup. Draft the arms, trade the arms, sign over the hill arms is the Duquette mantra.
This is completely irrelevant to this post. We dfa’d an outfielder to make room for a SP. We need to clear out a rule 5 guy next and bring in a LH hitting outfielder.
I’m pretty sure he’s talking about the minor league pitcher they traded to get Brugman
Jake Bray the 25 year old you had never pitched about low A. So it was a nothing prospect for a nothing prospect deal earlier this off season.
Just keep drinking the Kool Aid. The deal was for a guy that we DFA’d for a guy that we could probably use in the future. If not, then why did we draft him? The Orioles need pitchers. When he was traded for Parra they said Zach Davies was a nothing pitcher and now he would be a number 2 in this rotation.
From MLBtraderumors.com about the trade and Jake Bray:
“Bray, 25, has not yet played above the Class A level. In 2017, he pitched to a 3.88 ERA in 51 Sally League frames. That said, he has shown some interesting peripherals at time, never more so than in his just-completed season, when he racked up 82 strikeouts against just 14 walks.”
Thank you Michael for explaining that the post was actually tied to that move. He may not agree with it but at least get it before spouting that it is irrelevant..
25 year old in the sally league is about all I need to hear.
Brugman has some serious obp potential, something the team sorely lacks. Maybe they are hoping he clears.
Brugman still has good potential to make on a 25 man roster. He will be claimed. I hopr to see him get some playing time.
I doubt Brugman clears. He didnt even get to the waiver wire in November
I could see the marlins claiming him
I feel like the same could be said about every player that gets DFA’d..at this point if he breathes and can hit a ball the marlins are in on them
Have to make league minimum for the Marlins to be interested.
He’s pre-arb so it fits
Hey go easy on them you know you just gotta keep Engelb Viemla, their bum back up catchers and their 24 rule 5 guys on the 40 man. Sure there’s a need for a young left handed hitting outfielder, so why bother keeping one?!
That was an actual quote from DD himself! DD was in a bathroom stall (where I hear he does his hardest work) an was within earshot of a stooge in the office and he recorded the convo. Riveting stuff haha
Not to mention Mike Wright, who’s out of options, 28 years old and unlikely to break camp
I am tired of hearing that the number 3 or 4 starter for the Orioles this year is-Mike Wright, previously Gallardo, Ubaldo, Miley, Hellickson, One week ago there was no number 3.
Bats left, White Sox outfield candidate.
