The Braves have announced that third baseman Adonis Garcia was released to allow him to pursue an opportunity in the Korea Baseball Organization. Previous reports indicated that Garcia, who is represented by Don Nomura, had agreed to join Korea’s LG Twins.
Garcia, 32, had carved out a significant role in Atlanta, though he missed significant time due to a finger injury and struggled at the plate in 2017. In the prior season, though, he saw near-regular time, turning in 563 plate appearances of .273/.311/.406 hitting.
With the move, the Braves have parted with one possible option at third base. Just how they’ll fill it remains to be seen. At this point, youngster Johan Camargo — who emerged with an intriguing 2017 season — is perhaps the odds-on favorite to see most of the time. That said, the club may yet pursue alternatives on the open market or via trade.

Don’t touch that stove ! Too hot
JDSchneck
Oh yea, it’s just cooking with gas
brianakabigb
Dare I say this opens the door to release the…Mouskraken upon Atlanta?
RunDMC
No, Garcia isn’t even the best in-house 3B candidate (Camargo). Garcia had his shot and never embraced it. Mous seems like he is going to want too many years, if we hold onto Riley. Todd Frazier looks like a more feasible option, imo.
UGA_Steve
Agreed. Mous is asking for too much for too many years, for too little honestly. He had big power numbers, but really isn’t the greatest hitter around.
I have extremely tempered expectations for Camargo. He was an offensive nothing until last year. Somehow, he went from hitting weak grounders and popups to line drives everywhere. He was basically the opposite of Dansby last year. Dansby went from hitting liners everywhere to hit weak grounders.
Since Rio is on the 40, I would expect him to get some AB’s against righties while they use Camargo at 3rd vs LHP’s and as utility against RHP’s (maybe sitting Dansby every fourth start or something).
At any rate, I am glad Adonis is gone. There was NOTHING to be gained by letting him steal PA’s from the young guys. We knew his ceiling, and it was below replacement level.
El Duderino
Go get him, Coppy!
ralph 3
Coppy gets him for what, the California Penal League?
bravesfan
Since you can sense tone on text easily, I’m gonna read your statement and assume you don’t know Coppy is with mlb anymore ….
brucewayne
U sure u even follow MLB ?
UGA_Steve
I must be missing a post. El Dude and Ralph were clearly poking fun at the situation.
If you guys really thought Dude was seriously stating for Coppy to go get him for MLB, you folks have no sense of sarcasm. And Ralph’s follow up was hilarious. So I am not certain why two ofd you are calling these guys out as not ‘getting it’.
Blake Camden
As a Mets fan, this is great news!
Logan10braves
There goes our 2016 cleanup hitter.
chri
Hopefully he can work on his defense and hitting under the prowess of Master Bei-Shun.
kenneth cole
Geez Yankees on a one year flier to let Andujar develop? Surprised
Michael Chaney
He’s not that good, especially for a team like the Yankees that plans on making a deep run. He hasn’t been an above average hitter since 2015, and even that was in a pretty small sample size. He was below replacement level last year too.
steelerbravenation
Sign Todd Frazier
Trade for Greinke
Sign Moylan
realgone2
You’re joking right?
chesteraarthur
still suck
braves4life1
Braves are about to make a Big Splash to become a Playoff team in 2018…..
Marlins get: Kolby Allard, Max Fried, Aaron Blair, Christin Pache
Braves get: Yelich and Prado (Braves pay major portion of Prado contract)
Indians get: Nick Markakis and Lucus Sims
Braves get: Danny Salazar
Cubs get: Ender Inciarte and AJ Minter
Braves get: Schwarber
realgone2
Do you live in Vermont? I heard they just legalized weed.
Braves95
Jajaja good one
Phillies2017
The Schwarber deal is awful for the Braves, and I’m not sure if the Indians would make the Salazar deal, but I think you’re probably pretty close on the Yelich deal, however Fried and Blair might need to be replaced with another pretty highly regarded pitching prospect.
realgone2
Blair has been beyond awful and has shown nothing impressive.
bravesfan
It’s funny how ur first offer was like “hmm not that bad” then ur 2nd was like “mmm I doubt that” and ur 3rd was like “alright this guy is out of his mind”
MakeATLGreatAgain
Why would we POSSIBLY give up Ender for Schwarber?
RunDMC
Wait, CLE gives up Salazar and all they get back is Markakis and Sims?? Cast-offs from the Wren and Coppy era. Nice. Maybe if they give up Lindor they could get back Jason Heyward and his contract from the Cubs…lol.
mlb1225
A 4 team trade proposal that makes absolutely no sense. For a person who’s username is Braves4Life1, I’d think you would want your team to get better, rather than depleting your farm, selling off one the best defensive outfielders in the game (who’s pretty good with the bat too), while only getting Yelich, Salazar, Schwarber, and Prado in return.
WAH1447
Hahahaha this is all a joke if schwaber came to Atlanta for ender I would be so mad but that would never happen
JKurk22
Heck no! You’re not a Braves fan. It sounds like you’d like to sink our ship. Those moves make no sense for us
mlb1225
Definitley a Cubs fan who over-values Schwarber. Schwarber for Inciarte? Like that’ll happen.
rm2916
Need to take kolby out and replace with Wisler then ok with that trade.
Ok with the trade with the Indians.
I wouldn’t do the trade for Schwaber, but would do it for Ian happy and player to be named later or cash considerations.
free2131
So, take out the best part of the trade and insert a borderline MLB player? You do know this isn’t MLB The Show, right?
chesteraarthur
Braves’ fan logic. They would them immediately demand twice as much from any team if they wanted to trade FOR them.
Phillies2017
So the Marlins trade their most tradeable asset for three 40-man roster pitchers who have pretty much sucked, a Martin Prado salary dump and Pache
That sounds fair- while we’re at it, someone tell Matt Klentak to pick up Michael Fulmer for Dylan Cozens, Nick Pivetta, Drew Anderson and Mark Appel
DMWBAGFv2
Brandon Phillips on the cheap
GabeOfThrones
Only comment that makes sense on this entire thread. 2019/20 will be more realistic contention windows. Have to wait for the young arms to marinate.
sportsjunkie24
Machado?
Phillies2017
I was responding to the gentleman who suggested swapping Wisler for Allard

Is it just me, or does Braves fandom (not just on this site, but most anywhere baseball is discussed on the InterWebs) consistently seem to be the most ignorant, myopic and militantly anti-reality online fanbase?
I know that every fanbase has its fair share of clowns, and there are at least a few Braves fans who can distinguish a baseball bat from a soup ladle most of the time, but the vast majority of opinions espoused by the vast majority of Braves fans (whether here, Fangraphs, SB nation national sites, etc) would seem to be satire except they’re too absurd to be read as quality satire.
chesteraarthur
It is not just you.
The # of Nick Markakis for actual prospects trade proposals is astonishing.
bravesfan
Good god chesteraarthur… you have to be the biggest troll on this site
petfoodfella
Hey, don’t blame the good Braves fans for all the trolling idiots.
kmoland
So you’re saying I’m wrong to be disappointed that the Bravos didn’t get a couple of good KBO prospects in return for Garcia? (Now that there’s some quality satire!)
UGA_Steve
Atlanta has a large fan base stoked by a likable loser team being broadcast worldwide at the start of the Cable TV boom. Many of these fans are just fans emotionally and don’t always understand the business of baseball. It’s bad, and possibly worse than some teams, but all teams have these folks. I actually saw LA fans claiming they should have gotten Acuna for Kazmir. I previously saw Angel fans stating they couldn’t believe the Braves let Maitan go for nothing. I saw a Red Sox post stating they should trade Price to the Braves for three of the Braves top five prospects (don’t mind the Braves are in save money and build a system mode). I saw a Yankees post stating they should sign Frasier then trade him to Atlanta for their top prospects, while covering Frasier’s salary (basically buying prospects except the Braves could afford giving Frasier a one-year deal, are not wanting to give up prospects, and the Yankees are trying like mad to get under the tax break). So the ridiculousness is everywhere.
On top of that, there are a couple of obvious trolls here that are not even Braves fans. There are a few who only look at favorites and not the business of baseball. There are some who try to understand the business but just don’t get it (like signing Moustakas .. but heck, most experts predict him to come to ATL, which is hilarious).
You also have to realize that many extremely knowledgeable baseball fans at this stage of the off-season are getting a little of the hot stove blues and are just randomly posting ridiculous things to pass the time. If you know some of these guys well enough, you know that the posts are flat out sarcasm or dream posts made with the intention of being fun. And that’s not just Braves fans.
All that being said, it still annoys me that so many Braves fans still whine about Heyward and Kimbrel. Anyone with a brain knew we couldn’t resign them so it just made sense to get anything we could. Sadly, those people haven’t stopped trolling for years, and some still think Heyward would have been worth $17m a year for a decade for the Braves even in their rebuild mode. Now that kind of stuff does show the emotional ignorance of some Braves fans.
slowcurve
My theory is there are so many bone-headed Braves and Cubs fans because there are just more Braves and Cubs fans in general. Credit that to WGN and TBS. I think every team’s fanbase has the good, the bad, and the ugly. Being a native Atlantan, I will say that Braves fans, as a whole, lack a pure passion for baseball that is visible in places like Boston and St. Louis for example. David Justice could tell you a thing or two about that.
John Mercurio
I would love to see the Braves trade with the Padres for Chase Headley, depending on the return. We have too many 3B and the Braves need one…
912boy
Perhaps the Braves could trade Markakis,Riley and a sub par pitcher to Baltimore for Machado if he would agree to extension next year we will have the $ and sign Kimbrel plus a SP any thoughts
Tyler 20
this would never happen. why would you want to sign most likely a record breaking deal on a reliever next year. youre still rebuilding. also why would the orioles do that. just no
912boy
your correct however if we make the trade for Realmuto and Yelich we could sign Machado in the offseason next year kimbrel and a starting pitcher have a loaded lineup and be in contention, Kimbrel loved Atl if they would give him a no trade clause and him see how good the team is he’ll be back
jbigz12
Definitely send us wisler Blair Brandon beachy kris medlen and Jim Johnson and we’ll give you machado.
GarryHarris
I like the idea of Johan Comargo getting a shot at a full time role. The Braves are shaping up to be that surprise team this season.
SoCalBrave
I know Machado is great and young, but I rather we spend that money on a proven pitcher and just see what Riley can do.
