Right-hander Victor Alcantara has been outrighted after clearing waivers, as Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reported on Twitter. That leaves the team with an open 40-man spot in advance of the Rule 5 draft later this week.
The 24-year-old Alcantara, who came to the organization in the Cameron Maybin swap, struggled in his first, limited MLB action in 2017. Alcantara spent most of the year in the upper minors, where he was utilized mostly as a reliever after spending the bulk of his career to that point as a starter. Over 74 2/3 innings at Double-A and Triple-A, he posted a 3.62 ERA with 8.8 K/9 and 5.5 BB/9.

Making room for rule 5 pick most likely. Must not think they can move Ian by Friday.

Kinsler would open up a spot for a second Rule 5.

Released the wrong Victor. Vmart would of been a better choice.

The tigers won’t cut vmart. They are too classy of an organization. If vmart wants to play in 2018 he will be the tigers DH in 2018

Good move. You can’t look backwards and worry about the fact that this guy was traded for Maybin. You have to look at Roster Spot #40, and compare that with the #1 overall Rule 5 pick.
Now the question is who will they pick?
Any thoughts?

AA is like a dog chasing his tail. #PoorBaseballJudgement You trade away your CF and did not have a bonafide replacement. The player you get back [like most of the prospects he got back at the 2017 trade deadline] never had a chance to see meaningful MLB innings. Look at his draft picks ——- weak. It will take the Tigers 2-3 years of going backwards [they still have not found their bottom yet] before they realize that AA is not GM material and another 5 years if they hire a decent GM after that. The last time the Tigers Franchise sunk so low it took over a decade to get back to meaningful baseball.

The front office will find the team’s “bottom” because they’ll be looking for it and like 2003, expect the fan base to not only marvel at the AAAA talent they put on the field, but pay to see them perform.
