Did he really just suggest Carlos Gomez as an option for the Red Sox? WTF How does he fill any need whatsoever?
Which is why I’ve been wondering about JD Martinez.
My only thought is to sign JDM or Carlos Gomez and then flip Jackie Bradley Jr.
JDM can DH! I like .300, 35hrs, 100rbis out of my DH. Carlos Gomez? Not so much. .240, 15hrs, 50rbis just doesn’t do it for me. Hanley Ramirez offers better production than that!
Gómez can be a great 4th OF but I think he wants to start
The Angels aren’t going to add significant payroll for a catcher. They love Maldonado and how he works with their pitchers, and are fully prepared to let him catch 130+ games again.
We thinned our middle infield depth when we acquired Piscotty, so it’s very unlikely we trim that even further by throwing in Barreto for another outfielder. Barreto will most likely hit the majors next season, and Mateo is at least a full year away. Then we’re a couple of years away from another group of middle infielders coming up through the system.
