In case you were unaware, Giancarlo Stanton is still on the Marlins. We’ll keep track of today’s rumblings on the National League MVP and trade candidate here…
- The Red Sox are no longer involved in the Stanton race, per Craig Mish of MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM (Twitter link). A report on Wednesday indicated that Boston and Miami hadn’t discussed Stanton since the general managers meetings in mid-November, so the Red Sox’s apparent exit from the sweepstakes doesn’t come as a surprise.
- While Stanton has personally met with the GMs for the Giants and Cardinals, the Los Angeles-born slugger is still waiting to see how serious the Dodgers’ interest is before he’s willing to completely embrace going to another team, according to Jon Morosi of MLB.com (Twitter links). However, the Dodgers and Marlins haven’t made any “substantial progress” in talks, Morosi adds, as LA is wary of the luxury-tax implications that would come with acquiring him. Meanwhile, both the Giants and Cardinals are still “in the dark” about whether Stanton would waive his no-trade clause to join them, Mish relays on Twitter.
- San Francisco and Miami have reportedly discussed Giants outfield prospect Heliot Ramos; however, there’s “no indication” the Giants have actually offered Ramos to the Marlins, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle tweets.

This is getting boring
Cardinals17
Amen to that!
dazhk
In other news the sky is still blue and grass is still green
Cardinals17
Obviously he really doesn’t want to play for the Giants or the Cardinals. Just the Dodgers. To get the Cardinals out, they could make a substantial trade which would could fill some of the Cardinals needs for 2018, and cut some of the Dodgers or Giants own payroll. Crawford at SS would look great in a Cardinal uniform.
gfankirk
Crawford doesn’t wanna leave SF he’s born and raised in the bay.plus he has a full no trade clause
dazhk
Why the hell would you wanna trade for Crawford? Cards have Dejong and not convinced they wanna move him to third! As much as I love to see Crawford play for the Cards they can use that money else where
Benklasner
Eww

.252/.317, not much power, not good offensively at all.

@Cardinals17
Typically Cardinal Fanbase comment that makes no sense
Ok pal the Giants are going to send their starting shortstop your way in exchange for them withdrawing their trade proposal.
The dumbest comment to date.
Do all Cardinal fans no as little about baseball as you do?
What
Or as little about grammar as you?
WarrenSpahn
not sure why Crawford is highly regarded. he walks on water for Giants fans. winning WS will do that. he’s on the downside and never was very good
dlevin111
This is a total waste of time
walls17
Do we still need these articles every day? Unless a serious development happens I think we could do without these
cwilliam
I agree wholeheartedly.
roadapple
Wrong. You need them and want them. Besides, this is the biggest contract in the history of sports that is going to be moved. It is kind of significant even if your own personal teams aren’t involved.
HubcapDiamondStarHalo
So don’t read them…
RedFeather
You don’t have to read them.
Vedder80
I want them daily.
Codybellingersgrandma
He doesn’t want to play for the giants or cardinals or this would already be done
nickmontgomery10
That’s not true , It’s a big decision for the man. I mean he’s got a huge contract and the team he picks he’s gonna be with for awhile. I’m sure he just can’t decide what’s best for him just yet. He obvi doesn’t want to be on a rebuilding team. He wants to be on the coast but the giant aren’t a good looking team meanwhile the cardinals can give stanton the chance to win and the cardinals are still a winning team. He just has to see what’s best for him and his family.
Philliesfan4life
I honestly think Stanton stays with the Marlins, nobody wants to take on his contract.
RunDMC
Marlins want to move his contract more than someone wants to pick it up. They will find middle ground. Teams won’t want to pay Machado and Harper exorbitant deals, but it will happen. No better time to move Stanton than now.
chound
Yeah, he’s being moved no matter what.
WarrenSpahn
Marlins are going to have to eat a big chunk, but he almost certainly is going somewhere, and soon
cnazimm
I think it should be obvious by now, the Dodgers are not that interested.
ExileInLA 2
For the right price, they probably are…
Vedder80
For the right price, every team in the league is interested.
Solaris601
Anyone care to lay odds on which top 50 free agent will be the first to sign after the Stanton saga ends?
jrwhite21
Ohtani. He’s the first big domino to fall
Joe Kerr
Doubtful, he has until Dec 22nd to sign and will want to meet with many teams, probably check out a bunch of cities so he will probably not sign until close to that date. No way the winter meetings come and go without a top 50 signing.
Jack hammer
Othani just went to the angels
rememberthecoop
Alex Cobb to the Cubs
SobahJam
Hosmer to the Sawx. What do I win?
arc89
Giants will need to take almost 100% of the amount due to get him. This will cause their payroll to handcuff them on any more pick ups. Even Stanton doesn’t make the giants a sure playoff team.
The Oregonian
The Giants and Cardinals need to move on. He doesn’t want to play for them, and they’re holding up all their offseason plans to pursue him. I hope Stanton gets stuck with the Marlins for dragging this out so long.
Philliesfan4life
He’s gonna be stuck with them, the marlins should move on and try to trade Ozuna. All Miami needs is pitching.
reflect
That’s not true, they also need money.
stankroenkeshair
Ozuna has wanted to leave for some time. Now anyone left with free agency within 3 years who wants to win – including Ozuna – will be gone anyway. So Fish might as well trade anyone and everyone they will lose before they are competitive
I believe Miami loses their $50MM a year in revenue sharing within 2 years also. Will be really ugly there
themed
Wrong!
JKB 2
Oh so this is Stantons fault? Stanton has dragged this on?
Get a clue!
WalkersDayOff
If the Dodgers want Stanton just get him and take the heavy luxury tax hit this year. Next year all the big contracts are gona and they will only have to go after Kershaw in free agency. After 2018 the tax wont hurt them.
Jo Daddy
Stanton is going to Stanton, cause Stanton wants to Stanton. All these news articles about Stanton are really becoming so Stanton, that Stanton can’t Stanton without Stanton. Dead horse is dead. Stanton.
Cardinals17
Hilarious and true!!! Another possible trade for the Cardinals could be to trade some young controllable outfielders and Wong for Yelich, Ozuna and Dee Gordon. I think I’d rather see them do something like that then putting all of their eggs in one basket.
Chris Sale Amateur Tailor
yeilsh would take a ton like rayes+ Weaver kind of ton I highly doubt he will be moved. look what Eaton got with 5 years of control and yelish is better
cxcx
I think they should try to do something with the Rangers, Mariners, or Astros. Income taxes in the other states will really tank the value of his deal.
Chris Sale Amateur Tailor
avd thats helps the team how?… also many of these players live in Florida anyway so…
HubcapDiamondStarHalo
The opening line of the article gave me a good chuckle!
jasaka
I’m wondering if Dodgers are interested but just biding time to see what Ohtani does. If he goes elsewhere then I suspect they will be in on Stanton. Or, they don’t want to scare Ohtani away with an overly crowded outfield with Stanton acquisition or even hint of wanting to trade for him. Dodgers always keep everything super close to the vest so it is hard to know.
Chris Sale Amateur Tailor
or they just don’t want a crowded outfild at all and won’t get Stanton not worth it
terry g
The problem with this trade is that there is no deadline to get it done. The Marlins could wait it out until February or not trade him at all. They are talking to interested clubs and that’s about it. Other than rumors we don’t know of any actual offers
Jean Matrac
The Marlins can’t wait it out much longer, let alone until February. If a trade doesn’t get completed soon the Cards and Giants will start devoting their assets and resources to addressing their team’s needs. The can’t, and won’t, wait because a lot of work needs to be done. If the Marlins wait too long any offers they have now will evaporate.
reflect
Stanton is gonna get traded to the Patriots.
TwinsHomer
Nah he’s 100% going to the Cavs
soggycereal
i was thinking penguins..?
Harvey Wallbanger
I heard he’s going to the PGA for Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant and Metallica. Marlins get Peter Griffin, Ricky Vaughn, Peyton manning
fmj
man there’s a lot of butt hurt commenters on here.. Lol. if it’s boring to you then quit looking. it’s a RUMORS website. not a “major transaction only” website. I like the little tidbit posts. it makes it interesting. the suspense is what’s fun. y’all are too impatient and don’t even realize it.
leftykoufax
I sure miss the days of the blockbuster trades and the wheeling and dealing back in the day.
TwinsHomer
I just feel like every team knows the Marlins have to trade the man. It’s gunna be a staring content… the Marlins seem to have little leverage between that fact and his NTC.
Robert88
How about three team deal.
Miami-Sp juilo urias
Sp Trevor oaks
2b joe panik
Of heilot ramos
Rp yasiel sierra
Dodgers- of giancarlo stanton
Giants- 2b dee gordon
Of marcell ozuna
WalkersDayOff
Giants will not help the Dodgers get Stanton
Vedder80
Why would the Dodger or the giants do this?
brucewayne
This trade will NEVER happen!
Jean Matrac
A Major omission to your trade scenario is who is taking on the contract, which happens to be the whole point of any trade for Stanton. It looks like it would be LA, which I doubt they want to do. Urias could be damaged goods, and I don’t think Miami wants that risk.
Robert88
They may help out, especially if marlins want teams to pay portion of stanton contact.
corey5kersh22
You must be marlins fan lol
jints1
The Giants and Cards should give Stanton and the Marlins a firm deadline. The two teams need to get control of their offseason. Right now they are at the mercy of Giancarlo Stanton.
BlueSkyLA
Seems like the entire hot stove season is at the mercy of Stanton, at least the part that isn’t hostage to Ohtani.
funkmasta198
Stanton just needs to swallow his big boy pill and realize the dodgers won’t take on that contract with where they are at currently… he signed the large contract now he has to deal with the limitations of himself being delt because of it.. if he doesn’t love cards or sf I hope they keep him and gut out every one else and see how he likes that option
kiddhoff
This reminds me of that idiotic 1 hour special(several years back) on ESPN when Lebron James announces which city will be lucky enough to be chosen by the annointed one. Stanton can stay in Miami for all I care. Stay away from him, Cardinals!!!
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
Stanton doesn’t have the massive ego LeBron James has. No one will ever have their own special like that again.
Priggs89
Yah. Screw LeBron and that massive ego that helped raise over $3mil for charity in one night. What a jerk.
Pablo
I’m guessing they are asking for a haul and Stanton’s full contract to be taken. They were probably asking the Sox for something like mookie betts as a starting point.
bronxbombers
That’s comical every team would rather have mookie betts and his contract and skills than Stanton
Vogt83
Don’t sleep on the Phillies. Sneaky, sneaky…. Owner is getting antsy…lots of $$$. Stanton, Machado (after ’18) and one ace could quickly make them contenders in a weak NL East. They have A TON OF MONEY….with ZERO payroll.
JKB 2
@Vogt83
Yawn …. sleeping on the Phillies getting Stanton. Stanton is not going to Philly ever. Get over it. Yawn. Sleeping
rememberthecoop
Eliot Ramos is only 18.
Jean Matrac
It’s Heliot Ramos. And he raised a number of eyebrows in the AZ rookie league. He had 11 2Bs, 6 3Bs, and 6 HRs in 138 ABs, and posted an OPS of 1.049. The Giants are excited about his potential.
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
Dodgers get
Station and cash
Marlins get
Juilo Urias
Yasiel Puig
Walker Buehler
They’ll have to pay at least 30% of the 295mil
BlueSkyLA
That deal is so generous, the Dodgers will throw in the team bus.
Jean Matrac
I don’t think Miami would want Urias. He had serious surgery, and there’s a question of whether he’ll be able to fully comeback. He might, but his value has to be low now, and the Dodgers would be best served to just hang on to him and see if he can come back.
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
I’m not familiar with the Dodgers farm system. He’s only 21 so in 4 or 5 years when he’s a free agent if he panned out they would flip him.
BlueSkyLA
Not to worry, the Dodgers are not trading Urias. Even with the injury recovery he has lots of potential and comes with zero risk.
mcdusty31
Buehler isn’t going to the Marlins unless the cover most of Stanton’s contract
yanks_aaronx3
Stanton isn’t going to the phillies. He has a ntc and they are rebuilding. Marlins are such a poorly run team in their history. I knew that contract was a mistake. They should take almost any reasonable offer that they can get for him, otherwise they could be stuck with him for at least 3 more seasons
AndThisGameBelongsToMySanDiegoPadres
More smoke, still no fire.
radioball123
He’s going to the A’s
AndThisGameBelongsToMySanDiegoPadres
Rays*
redsoxrob9418
In two years somebody will be trying to dump his huge contract for yet another above average player
SobahJam
The Dodgers are holding all their dollars until next year so they can make sweet love to Harper.
As for Stanton, nobody knows nothing. It’s all postulating and conjecture until he officially agrees to pack his bags.
As for the real winners here, it’s the sports writers of america. They grab all the headlines, and we pay their bills in the the mean time.
