Breakout Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, according to a club announcement. Per the announcement, Judge received a “loose-body removal and cartilage clean-up.”
Fortunately for New York, the surgery does not seem to be a major concern for the young outfielder. He is expected to wrap up his rehab in time to participate fully for Spring Training.
Last spring, expectations for Judge were mixed. He had struggled in his MLB debut in 2016 and was not even a sure thing to make the Opening Day roster. But he ended up turning in a monster campaign, taking home Rookie of the Year honors and placing second in the MVP race in the American League.

Let the overreactions and over analyzing begin!!!

He’s washed up for sure now!! But the Cardinals will take him and give the Yanks a minor league prospect to boot just to show how nice we are !!!

If this becomes another Andrew Luck situation I swear…

Stop.

It will affect his swing. In addition to the structural changes in his shoulder due to the surgery, the loss of workout and practice time will have a deleterious effect on his production.
If players only worked out in spring training it would be no problem, but in today’s game they practice all year round.

Dr Lefty, doesn’t arthroscopic surgery minimize the damage of which you speak? Also where did you do your fellowship in orthopedics?
outinleftfield
My baseball career was ended because of a shoulder injury after 2 years in the minors.
Arthroscopic surgery has come a long way, but you may want to look at other players that have had labral debridement shoulder surgery, the type Judge just had, and their stats the year following the surgery.
You don’t have to be an orthopedic surgeon to understand the effect that type of surgery has on a player. You just need to understand the mechanics of the swing and the human body.

This is pretty cool. Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up.
(But Judge’s surgery is considered “minor” so I try to stay positive)

Does anyone know how I can make $300k+ per year by working from home in as little as 20 hours per week?

I have them. Talk to you later.

By being used by the Braves to package yourself into a bigger prospect bonus pool?
Cat Mando
There are a few “houses” in Washoe, Lincoln and Douglas counties in NV where the pay is quite high. Might be more than 20 hours/week and not sure you if you would “qualify”

Absolutely hilarious!

There goes the Judge

If I were running the Yankees, I’d trade Judge to the Red Sox. Do it today. Don’t even ask for much in return, get out of this campaign now.

It’s minor surgery.
If he hit like he did in 2017 with this problem I can’t wait to see what he does when he is his “normal” self.
metseventually
He had his best month in September, so….yeah.
floridapinstripes
Doesn’t mean he can’t have an even better month and more importantly a better year.
Nothing wrong with being hopeful about a promising young star
metseventually
15 home runs and an OPS over 1300. He won’t have a better month than that and I’d put money down that this is his peak.
frankthetank1985
As a fellow Mets fan, we have no right to talk about any players injury and star potential lol
EasternLeagueVeteran
I agree. Matt Harvey was supposed to come back and win 30 for the first time since Denny McLain. Maybe even throw the Mets second No-Hitter of all time. We all know how that worked out. Changing my handle to SarcasticButHopeful. LOL
Cuso
That’s wishful stupidity. He’s not peaking in his rookie year no matter how many haters wish it so.
metseventually
Unless he starts hitting breaking balls and LH pitching, this is his peak.
MB923
Judge had a .439 OBP and .934 OPS against LHP last season which ranked 29th in baseball (OBP ranked 9th). I’m not saying that’s an excellent ranking, but whoever says he can’t hit lefties is just wrong.
As far as breaking balls go, he hit .274 off CB which was fairly close to his season average. It’s the slider he had difficulty with (.161), but I’m sure he can make adjustments. Jose Altuve in his first season hit just .156 against Sliders as well.
thegreatcerealfamine
But @outinleftfield feels it’s gonna be a problem. Who should we believe, the Yankees medical staff or a delusional O’s fan?
MB923
Well it may be a problem or it may not be a problem. We shall see.
thegreatcerealfamine
I don’t think it’s gonna be. Maybe he was really hurting like some analysts were saying. Makes you wonder about Joes reaction when he was slumping…
Polish Hammer
So now he’ll get that prescription for PEDs as part of his recovery.
driftcat28 2
Explains why his shoulder was wrapped after games over the summer and maybe explains the slump. Should be a routine procedure though, should be fine by spring and ready to go
danny c
i wanna know when the injury occurred. could definitely be related to his slump
EasternLeagueVeteran
I have to believe that making the fantastic leaping catches in the outfield during post-season probably exacerbated the injury, and could have lead to that all-time post-season strikeout record.
22222pete
The timing suggests it was injured during the HR Derby. Just say NO next year AJ
