The Royals have claimed righty Sam Gaviglio off waivers from the Mariners, per an announcement from the Seattle organization. Kansas City, meanwhile, has released veteran hurler Neftali Feliz, MLB.com’s Jeffrey Flanagan tweets.
That move will open a 40-man spot for the M’s as they put together a slate of September call-ups. Gaviglio, 27, debuted this year for Seattle, working to a 4.62 ERA with 5.8 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 over 62 1/3 innings. He was tagged for 15 long balls in that span. Gaviglio did throw better at Triple-A, though, posting a 3.88 ERA across 72 frames in 13 outings.
As for Feliz, the 29-year-old landed with the Royals after an unsuccessful run with the Brewers earlier this year. He gave K.C. twenty outings of 4.74 ERA ball, averaging 7.6 strikeouts and 3.8 walks per nine. Milwaukee will continue to pay the remainder of the $5.35MM owed to Feliz for the season.

Smart, one of the only guys that has gone more than 6 innings all years is now gone.
BuddyBoy
Typical clueless remark by you
24TheKid
Why put one of the guys that has actually had success this year on waivers? Why not Gallardo, Gonzalez or Albers?
SalvyKC_13
Lmao I’ve seen a few of your comments lately, and I’m pretty sure your the clueless one. Maybe before attacking others, you should check your own thoughts. At least this guy knows what he’s talking about and clearly hasn’t been a fan of his team for only 5 months.

Mariners didn’t have a choice, was claimed

In what world is one home run every four innings and a less than 2 to 1 K/BB rate being successful?
Albers and Gonzales still have jobs because they’re left handed and their FIPs indicate they haven’t been as bad as their ERAs (Gaviglio’s FIP is actually a run and a half higher than his ERA). Gallardo will probably be bought out after the season. Neither he or Gaviglio is any great loss, but one is a decent sized sunk cost that the GM personally acquired via trade.
Oh, and Gaviglio went 6 innings or more 5 times for the Ms (in 12 starts). In those games his record was 0-4, with one no decision. His average IP in all his starts is 4 1/3.

Neftali never recovered from the 2011 WS when Nelson Cruz couldn’t catch a fly ball to right.
GareBear
More like Texas screwing him up trying to make him a starter
rxbrgr
The Royals signed him after being released by MIL, so I’m guessing they just owe him the remainder of minimum contract.
GareBear
Maybe not since it was only a minor league deal, meaning it didn’t have to be guaranteed.

Gaviglio has given up a ton of jacks jesus.
lovableschmuck
I’m happy for Sam,now he gets a real opportunity to compete for a spot on the Royals roster.I feel sorry for all the other guys on the Mariner AAA and AA rosters; it must be disheartening to be pushed further down the depth chart as DiPoto continually adds pitchers every week.
jbigz12
Why? A 27 year old non prospect who gave up a ton of hrs in the bigs this year. These are the kinds of guys who get DFA’d all the time.
Greg Cole
Go get Feliz, M’s!
