The proposed Machado trades seem a bit silly. Why give up those prospects for 1 year? If an extension signed at trade time, sure.
Suggesting Houston do that just to move him or Bregman to the OF seems like a bit much.
Gwynning's Anal Lover
I can picture Manny heading to the Mets. Wright will never be the same.
eilexx
The same? Wright is likely to never suit up in a major league game again, much less be the same.
RunDMC
That would suggest NYM spending significantly, which will not happen. Let them continue to hold their breath each season they will get any production from Harvey/Wright while Thor, deGrom, Matz avoid simultaneously being on the DL.

The proposed Stanton trade is a joke. Regardless of how much Stanton is owed, the Giants’ #3 prospect, an okay OF prospect, and… Denard Span??? No way.
Brixton
While definitely a lowball offer, you can’t expect multiple high end prospects when Stanton is still owed 300M. It’s either the Marlins eat a ton of money and get prospects, or they get a meaningful piece or two + salary relief.
You’re not getting top prospects + the salary relief
wiggysf
Reynolds is looking good. Still a bad offer, but he is pretty legit.

Continuing with this theme of bizarre arguments, Josh Bell for NL ROY is just crazy, and the author’s using RBI/HR and O-Swing% is classic cherry-picking. I like Bell, and I actually believe he’ll be a solid – average player in time, but he’s a terrible defender at 1B and has been something of a league – average hitter. That’s not a particularly strong season, especially compared to Bellinger, who literally has him beat in every meaningful category except for strikeout rate

I’d take the propose deal for Machado. Whitley and Tucker + 2 others. Say paulino or martes and someone else. That’d be a great get.
astros_fan_84
It’d be robbery. Lunhow is too smart for that.
bastros88
astros don’t need a third baseman
astros_fan_84
Machado to Astros makes no sense. That’s not an area of need. I could see a play for Britton though.

the jays journal article about goins is nuts. yes he’s not a good hitter but for a cheap util option who can play anywhere in the IF when you have 2 constantly injured parts already (And JD seems to find a calf strain often now) the cost is worth it.
I like how the argument built and cost was mentioned and Pat followed that up with Nunez. Unless the plan is to have him play 2b everyday, the jays aren’t paying what he will command to be a util. plus Nunez is pointless unless the team decides to run more which they won’t under Gibby
jaysrule1399
When Goins has been given consistent AB’s he has decent numbers, he will always be a glove first player but his bat has shown just enough to be a suitable replacement. Go Go will likely still be there next yr. As for Hernandez unless his spring is completely atrocious o think he has a corner OF spot locked up.

Found hasn’t even been good defensively this year. He’s been pretty useless minus the handful of at bats he’s had with the bases loaded.

Not for just one year of machado. That’s a rediculous overpay, unless they reach an extension. An article was highlighted a few weeks where the Mets should trade deform/Rosario for machado. Hell to the NO. Unless an extension is reached, and we know that won’t happen, he will play next season in Baltimore then sign a big deal elsewhere. If my Mets are in on him, that would be amazing. But as a realistic Mets fan, I kno that won’t happen. They will continue shoving a square peg into a circle hole until the prove otherwise (cespedes signing isn’t proving otherwise to this Mets fan).

How I see the Machado situation plays out:
This off season:
Boston offers Baltimore Refers and 2 prospects but Duquette turns it down because they are division rivals.
Next year at trade deadline:
Baltimore gets numerous offers for Machado, but none of them are what they want or consider fair. Takje their chances that they will re-sign him in the off season
Next off season:
Bidding war ensues for Machado between Yankees and Red Sox, Yankees win the bidding war and then buy out Chase Bradley. Baltimore ends up with compensation pick and then sign Chase Bradley!
