Here’s the latest on the trade market for Rangers star Yu Darvish:
- The Yankees don’t seem likely to land Darvish, suggests Heyman, who tweets that they haven’t gotten “deep” into talks centering on the 30-year-old. The Rangers should be able to get a better return from another team, adds Heyman, who points to the Dodgers as a “logical” fit.
Earlier updates:
- A Darvish trade is “becoming increasingly likely,” Jon Heyman of FanRag writes. It was previously unclear whether the Rangers, who have been on the fringes of the Wild Card race, would trade Darvish, but teams interested in trading for Darvish now suggest that negotiations have become more intense lately. (FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reported earlier this week that the Rangers would trade Darvish.) Darvish is a rental, but the Rangers are, perhaps understandably, seeking a top prospect in return. The Yankees, however, have indicated they won’t trade Gleyber Torres or Clint Frazier, and there is no indication the Dodgers would trade Alex Verdugo or Walker Buehler. The Rangers have also received interest in Darvish’s fellow starter Andrew Cashner, Heyman writes.
- The Dodgers’ three top targets are Darvish, Sonny Gray and Zach Britton, Rosenthal tweets. He indicates, however, that the team’s preference is “not necessarily in that order,” and that the team’s plan will likely be dictated by asking prices for each player. (The latest rumors about Gray suggest the A’s are seeking top young talents, like Milwaukee’s Lewis Brinson, in return, just as the Rangers seem to be doing with Darvish.)
greenarrow1150
like I’ve said before, granderson gets traded to Brewers and trade for Sonny for Brinson.
Dave 41
There is an exactly 0.0% chance of that happening
greenarrow1150
So says many headlines in last week lol
davbee
You mean so much fake news.
michaelw
No says the Brewers today idiot. Unless you own the Brewers
fljay73
It’s called “rumors”
Fake news is a term started after Jan 19th 😉
James7430
I say there’s even less than a 0.0% chance.
dugdog83
So your telling me there’s a chance. I read ya.
Luckybrew
Sure hope not!!!!
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
Why would granderson want to go to Milwaukee. They aren’t making the playoffs unless they slip in like the giants and play the wild card game.
pd14athletics
That worked pretty well for the Giants!
michaelw
The Brewers don’t have Bum either. Clueless.
Dynasty
Yankees better stay far away. We can sign him next year if we want. I’m content missing the playoffs on a year where we shouldn’t have been this good anyway.
empiresam
As a Sox fan, I have to agree but up to a point. The Yankees last year had a perfect storm with two desperate cities clamoring for a title and give Cashman credit for how things played out. However this year the only team perhaps in that category of overpaying is the LAD in my view. That said if there is no bidding war, even they shouldn’t overpay.
hunthutch
Has Britton been hurt why does he only have 18 IP?
Ry.the.Stunner
He’s spent like two months on the DL.
TedsFrozenHead 2
Verdugo’s not that good. Give him up!
hunthutch
Gonna be a very good contact hitter with plus D. No power numbers gonna be goin out tho
abcrazy4dodgers
Unless he gets noggin assists.

A clique of hypotheticals here:
Yankees get Yu Darvish
Rangers get Freicer Perez, Thairo Estrada, Justus Sheffield, and Hoy Jun Park
Dodgers get Yu Darvish and Alex Claudio
Rangers get Yadier Alvarez and Mitchell White
greenarrow1150
Yeah because Yankees fans are annoying lol gotta love the over hyped farm system
driftcat28 2
Overhyped but it’s consistently ranked top 3 in all of baseball?
greenarrow1150
lol prove that it’s been the best top 3 of all time….ill wait
therealbdavis
I second that. I’m curious if you can prove it.
justinept
All time? Who said anything about all time? He’s saying experts rank across the board have the Yanks as a top 3 system. No one can prove whether it’s an accurate assessment or not. It’ll take years before we know if they’re right or not.
tharrie0820
He didn’t say of all time
CubsRule08
Yankees have said more than once that Frazier, Torres and Sheffield are not going anywhere. Yankees are more likely to trade Florial or Mateo if it’s for the right piece
puigpower
Zero interest in Claudio.
anthodan
If you have zero interest in Claudio, then you know zero about him. You should educate yourself before you show yourself to be uninformed.
hunthutch
Claudio is a monster and the lefty arm dodgers have been looking for but I think the rangers are overpricing there pieces so it might take more than Alvarez
Matt Galvin
Hamels/Bullpener to Dodgers for Alvarez,White and so on?
Darvish/Lucroy to Cubs Alomara and so on?
Cashner to Yankees for Perez,Park and so on?
Napoli/Gomez to Red Sox’s?
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
Almora isn’t getting traded. That’s dumb to think that. If rather the cubs throw money at Darvish than give up anyoone. They are on his no trade list anyway. Probably because they were crap when he signed with the giants.
Familia1931
I’d like Napoli and Yu…heck, maybe even Gomez. Would you like a package of JBJ, Groome and Castillo?
anthodan
Cubs are on Darvish’s 10 Team No Trade List.
Pay attention. Hamels not available.
Sibert18
Lol Darvish AND Claudio for 2 prospects? No chance
Daniel6194
I woudl of that yankee trade with Claudio
justinkm19
You think they’re giving up Darvish and Claudio for 2 players? Claudio would cost one of them by himself. He has been the Rangers’ best reliever all year.
MahatmaGagne
Mitchell White and Trevor Oaks should get this done
Or Brock Stewart and Trevor Oaks. Rangers are crazy for thinking they will get top prospects for a rental
Dusty Baker
Dodgers need a back-end bullpen lefty and a quality starter. Give me Darvish and Hand/Britton and I’m stoked.
1. Kershaw
2. Darvish
3. Wood
4. Hill
5. McCarthy/Ryu
Left handed Reliever: Britton
Right handed Reliever: Baez
Closer: Jansen
Both Britton/Hand and Baez can be used as set-ups and for high leverage situations.
Chris Sale Amateur Tailor
Everyone would be stoked if they get Darvish…
hunthutch
Think Maeda took back the 5 spot
BlueSkyLA
For now, it seems. Landing a top-rotation righty could bump Ryu into the pen, which helps with the LF relief problem.
leftcoaster
Dodgers better not trade Calhoun, Buehler or Verdugo to rent Darvish for a few months. Calhoun is the most likely to go and he can flat out mash. Reports are now decent on his play in left field as well.
dodgerfan711
Exactly if Kyle Schwarber can play LF willy calhoun can. His bat has way too much upside to deal away
dug
I agree Calhoun ends up being the one most likely of the big 4. With some combo of White, May, Peters, Ruiz, and Smith; I could see a deal happening without the top 4 guys.
anthodan
Folly
baberuthbomber8
If I was the Rangers, go after 3/4 of the Dodgers 2nd Tier prospects.. they have turned out quality talent for Yu
norcalblue
Based upon numerous reports in the media, it’s now pretty clear that the Dodgers can have Darvish for Verdugo as the Rangers have fallen in love with the young outfielder. I still don’t think Friedman gives up any of these top prospects (Buehler, Alvarez or Verdugo) for a two month rental.
Unlike previous years, it seems like there are an increasing number of LAD fans who are buying into Friedman’s approach and support walking away if the Rangers price remains high.
chamerhammer
Totally agree norcalblue. Bellinger and Seager were both prospects that other teams wanted…saying no turned out pretty good for the Dodgers.
I have been a Dodger fan since the late 60’s and the current team feels different than any I can remember. They have great chemistry and a tenacity for not giving up. They work counts while still attacking with aggression when they get their pitch. I have seen individuals do this throughout the years but I’ve never seen a team 1-8 in the batting order do this as a group more effectively. All of that to say 1988 is a long time to wait for another shot at a WS BUT I hope the front office does not ship out some of our best prospects for a rental. Don’t do it Andrew!!
norcalblue
I’m with you 100%! It’s nice to see that after some sustained success and evidence that his approach works, an increasing number of dodger fans here and elsewhere are starting to develop some patience and appreciation for the disciplined approach that Friedman brings to his leadership role. I certainly hear you and others about 1988 being a long time ago; but, eventually we are going to knock the door down. More than the other major sports, the MLB postseason is far less predictable and that is not going to change. I am convinced that over time Friedman’s approach will eventually produce a WS winner. In the meantime, dodger fans are going to enjoy their springs and Sumner for many years to come.
bcrain59
I have to say I have bleed blue my whole life and have been dying to have that World Series Championship. I set outside the stadium as Steve Finley hit a Grand Slam to beat the Giants and watched on Sept 18th, 2016 when the dodgers hit 4 HR in a row and a 5th on extras to beat the Padres. But for the first time in years I can honestly say this has been the most I have enjoyed watching the dodgers all season long.
With that I am 100% ok if not a single move is made, now I feel a move will be made for bullpen yes, but this is a team that has been built together to ride together, it’s a team chemistry I don’t want to see be ruined. I feel with Friedman’s approach he is looking at this world championship but is also looking at the next 10 World Series Championships down the road too. So let the teams have their rentals, give up their farm system. We are here for the Long Haul.
norcalblue
Good for you Bcrain. I hear you. I’ve been going to dodger games since 1961 at the Coliseum. The 60s were very special as we truly played the “Dodger Way”; but this team (and last year as well under Doc) has been very special. I feel they are returning to the same commitment to player development that Branch Rickey started and continued in the 60-70s in LA. The real difference is that this ownership will spend money when they have to. O’Malleys (both Peter and the old man) were very cheap and when players were given their freedom, the game really evolved past them.
Kasten was very clear that this was the direction we would go when Guggenheim took over and he really deserves credit for seeing Friedman as the guy who could make it happen. Doc has been a huge key to making it all work; but the disciplined commitment to playing the game correctly and building a clubhouse and deep 40 man roster where everyone is on the same page has been an organizational focus the starts with Kasten/Friedman.
We have so many young and talented assets at single A that I would still not be surprised if the Rangers don’t pivot from Verdugo and move to asking for a package from guys like (Diaz, White, Santana, etc) to still make a deal for Yu. The Rangers really have to deal the guy as they could end up with nothing.
jbsimms86
I’d definitely move Pederson, Diaz, Alvarez before Verdugo, Beuhler, Ruiz.
anthodan
When you are this close to a World Series Crown, you do not quibble with prospects vs an Ace.
TedsFrozenHead 2
Verdugo isn’t that good. Typical overhyped prospect that we don’t need. Get him gone!
Francys01
Dodgers, time is running and you need to decide if you truly want to win the World Series. By acquiring Darvish the team has more chances on winning but who knows. Therefore, the Rangers can make business with another team and obtain the prospects that they are looking for.
1980MVP
I’d rather have Gray
abcrazy4dodgers
I’ll see your Gray and Darvish with one Lance Lynn. It’s been awful quiet in StL though.
anthodan
Dumb
Jmpshorty
There time isn’t running, kershaw maybe yes but again… Kershaw has probably 5 years left. But they will also have roughly 4-5 years left of Grandal, Bellinger, Seager, Turner, Puig, Joc, Taylor, Kike, Thompson, Barnes, Toles, Verdugo, Calhoun all as batters. Their bats will keep getting better especially if they make a run at Machado/Harper like reports say.
Wood, Kershaw will be there for a while. Over the next three years they lose Ryu, McCarthy, Kazmir, and Hill… easily they can find replacements in the farm or FA
Dwak15
What would be a realistic trade for darvish from the Yankees since not only is he a rental but having a tough stretch of starts including his last one giving up 8 to the marlins in 3 innings?
parman4818
Chance Adams Florial and Sheffield will get you Darvish and a bullpen arm like Kela
bronxbombers
Don’t need kela
laswagn
If the rangers insist on Verdugo or Buehler in a trade for Darvish, then I say no thank you! Calhoun, Alvarez, and a lower A prospect should get it done.
yuforreal
lol….Buehler and Calhoun or Alvarez….anything less, your smokin LA’s finest.
yuforreal
lol….Buehler and Calhoun or Alvarez….anything less, your smokin LA’s finest…..LA is one pitcher away from really going after a title. give up 2 top prospects.
norcalblue
Alvarez has far, far too much upside for a two month rental. Darvish slots in as the Dodgers #4 starter right now. No need to panic. I think your offer is much too generous.
chinmusic
Schwarber and Almora for Sonny Gray.
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
Lol umm no. Who would play left and center? Jon Jay is not starter material anymore. Happ plays I guess plays center. IF is Vacant.
beaubeadreaux
Would Happ, Candelario, de la Cruz for Gray seem like a fair deal
bsteady7
I’d rather trade schwarber than ian Happ
beaubeadreaux
I agree with that. Schwarber belongs in the AL, but after the World Series it’s hard to want to trade him. Could see him also catching in the future & have a rotation of Contreras, Schwarber, & Caratini behind the plate allowing WC getting more starts in LF to keep him healthy/fresh.
Jean Matrac
OF course, but anyone would want Happ instead of Schwarber, one of the most over-hyped players out there. I think the bloom is off that rose. The Cubs should have cashed in before the real Schwarber showed up.
tharrie0820
Happ center, zobrist left, bar at second
tharrie0820
Happ center, zobrist left, baez at second…..dat auto correct
charles stevens
Someone will give up a top 30 prospect for Darvish before this is over. I also firmly believe Gray will command a top 30 plus another top 100 prospect.
The GM’s in buy mode get itchy trade fingers the longer this goes.
norcalblue
There is certainly evidence, from prior years, to support your point. Which is why I think, in the end, the Dodgers will not be making trades for high profile pitchers. This “pressure” you describe is one of the many reasons why Friedman builds roster depth and does everything he can to avoid being in a weak position in late July.
ntmartin2010
If you want a proven MLB player that will help you get to the WS, then expect to pay up. Rangers would probably throw in Keene Kela, but for that, they for sure would get either Buehler or Verdugo, plus Calhoun or Alvarez and a couple mid-to-low ballers.
These are prospects so everyone needs to remember that not all pan out in the majors.
Nolenabs83
Who’s to say the Dodgers can’t make the WS as we stand? I would love Darvish but not at the cost the Rangers are asking. 1 top 100 prospect with some lower ones seems fair for a 2 month rental
ntmartin2010
I never said the Dodgers couldn’t win as the way they stand. But with Clayton sidelines for 2 months. Darvish would surely help and if you did get him, your chances only got that much better. No way in hell a top 100 prospect would do it. It would have to be top 50 for sure. And if Kela is included, then Buehler or Verdugo better be the headliner in that trade.
dug
A top 100 prospect and 2 others is pretty much the standard for renting an ace.
BlueSkyLA
Don’t know where this two months rumor got started, since the Dodgers haven’t provided any timetable but those who are familiar with the situation are saying 4-6 weeks.
ntmartin2010
I’ve heard 6-8, but off by a whole 2 weeks. Big whoop
BlueSkyLA
You heard wrong and the difference is huge considering where we are in the season.
ntmartin2010
2 week difference = 2 to 3 starts. When you are leading the division by 13 games and 4-6 weeks or 6-8 weeks still puts you back before the postseason….that’s not that huge for the difference conversation
anthodan
You should investigate what happened in last start for Darvish. Telegraphing FB’s with a change in his delivery. Aug Sept Playoffs is Not 2 months. Sign him while you have him.
Takachulo
Why do people think throwing in someone nobody asked for is going to open the prospect pursestrings? And Rangers fans seem REALLY desperate to get rid of Kela for some reason.
anthodan
Fans want rid of Kela? Nope. Uninformed BS.
ntmartin2010
Nap and Cashner to Yanks for Justus Sheffield
ntmartin2010
Darvish and Kela (who has 3 years on his contract) to Dodgers for Verdugo, Alvarez and couple A to AA ballers
Philliesfan4life
Yanks are better off getting a rental like lance lynn
Dodgers13
I’ve waivered over who was better for the Dodgers, Darvish or Gray but I think that Gray is just a better fit. The dodgers could give up Alvarez, Diaz and White to get him.
parman4818
I think the Dodgers can get Darvish and Keona Kela for either or of two packages of prospects
Group A
Alex Verdugo
Keibert Ruiz
Trevor Oaks
Dennis Santana
Group B
Yadier Alvarez
Willie Calhoun
Mitch White
DJ Peters
BlueSkyLA
Don’t forget to throw in the team bus.

I’ve seen Alvarez pitch. Live arm but command is a big issue. 29 walks in 63 innings AND he continually misses IN the strike zone. If I’m the Dodgers I trade Alvarez, Rios (.310, 19 hr’s) and Lux (2016 first rounder) for Gray. No 3 month rentals. Hell to the no!
madmanTX
Rangers get who they want or they keep Darvish. They aren’t going to trade him for risky or bottom level guys.
1980MVP
Keep him. From the Doyers fan
hunthutch
Keep him so you don’t get anything in return , still miss the playoffs , then lose darvish in the offseason
Jean Matrac
If they keep him he gets a QO. That’s not nothing in return.
jbsimms86
Unfortunately a 5th round pick is close to nothing now. The QO has changed it’s not longer much more valuable.
brewcrewenthusiast
Please Brewers don’t trade brinson for gray or darvish. Stand pat, win the division and lose in the first round it’s fine.
Poynter3434
Report from Marlins is Darvish tipped his pitches the other day. So the 10 ER wasent because of “stuff” but because they knew what was coming.

Interesting, people have said he and Brocail don’t see eye to eye; and he didn’t seem that interested in that Marlins game.

Ladies and gentlemen, your 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers trade deadlune superstud is (drum roll)…
Dan Straily! Woohoo!
leftcoaster
Straily has better numbers than Darvish and wouldn’t cost Buehler, Calhoun, Alvarez or Verdugo.
Anthony Forkush
I wonder if Darvish has been just a result of the entire woeful season in Arlington. His dominance, when right, is elite I think. Once added to an historically significant team, he may well shine.
trueblue442
I really think that this deal is already done. News out of Texas, “Will move Darvish.” News from LA, “Confident they will get Gray, Darvish or Verlander.” Then the Dodgers acquire a minor league SP (Farrell). This accusation to replace someone like Alvarez. I bet there is a deal between Texas and LA, but knowing Friedman, he is wanting to lump in another team to get someone like Britton or Hand.
I might be getting ahead of myself… But maybe!

no way no how do the Yankees move Frazier or Torres.
They will move Flores, Mateo and Justus Sheffield.

What’s new in this update to the article? Yankees not being a likely landing spot for Darvish?
