*Trade deadline recap….
jenkmanvegas
dodgers win it
EndinStealth
Dodgers already were the NL favorite, but now are clear favorites to take home the WS.
Houston We Have A Solution
And they’ll mess that up somehow like they do every year. You can celebrate when they are hoisting the WS trophy. Don’t celebrate listening to deadline deals on MLB network.
jt3z
Injuries and the Cardinals are the only reason why the Dodgers never do well in the postseason. Plus they have never ever been the favorite
EndinStealth
I’m not celebrating anything. I’m a Cards fan and disturbed that they stood still. But it’s obvious who the NL favorite is to make it all the way.
padresfan
How are they favorites?
The last I checked… yesterday. The nats were the nl favorites
hunthutch
No dodgers are
EndinStealth
Even if the Nats had the upper hand, which I’d argue, today’s additions push the Dodgers past them.
arodgers661
On what website? Fangraphs has the dodgers as the favorite.
ttinsley1434
Uhhhhh. No. Wishful thinking from a salty Madres fan.
Kershiser
Don’t know if you noticed, but some things changed since yesterday… also how is the team with the best record on the planet not a favorite to win it all?
Chris Sale Amateur Tailor
Where tf were you checking?
jasaka
Where did you check yesterday to find out that Nats were favorite to win WS?
Dodgers have best record, best bullpen, best starting ERA, top of the pack power and defense.
I’m not saying they will win or those will translate to PO, but by most accounts, they are the favorites to at least go to the WS from NL
gogoblue
You guys, look at the OP’s username. A bitter, jealous Pads fan venting out his frustrations, lol.
66TheNumberOfTheBest
I would not have picked them to win the NLCS until today’s moves.
I agree they are now the clear WS favorites if they stay healthy.
Gobbysteiner
The dodgers are favorites every single year and every single year they choke

Preller really messed up.
Houston We Have A Solution
He should have traded Chacin and Stammen. He messed up not trading those two.
dodgerfan711
This had to be his highest value. 3 postseason races he could have been in. 2 now will decrease the value
jdgoat
No he didn’t. He wouldn’t sell low on one of the most valuable relief arms available. He’ll get his haul for hand
outinleftfield
Can you say Kimbrel? Everyone said Preller messed up by not trading Kimbrel and then he got much more in the offseason than he was offered at the deadline because he had more teams bidding on him.
No reason to trade Hand now if he didn’t get his price when every save Hand gets the rest of the season makes him more valuable and more teams bidding on his services in the offseason drives up the return. Baseball 101 says closers are worth more than an equal or even better setup man and Economics 101 say the more people bidding, the higher the price goes.
ElDuderino99
Dodgers win it, Dback a close second, Dodgers got Darvish and didnt have to give up Verdugo making this one of the most one sided trades in recent memory, and they pulled it off perfectly, they waited just long enough for the rangers to panic and give up darvish for close to nothing, they definitely could have left Cingrani alone though
chesteraarthur
“making this one of the most one sided trades in recent memory” – you must have a really short memory
ElDuderino99
No that was just me exaggerating but it is one sided as hell, Dodgers should have given up way more fot Darvish, despite his last few starts Darvish is a beast and I cant wait to see how he’ll play in October
tobyharrah1977
You are clueless
LADreamin
You’re thinking of the Darvish of a few years ago. He’s still good, but he has struggled this year. I never thought Darvish was worth Verdugo and neither did anyone else outside of Texas.
Chris Sale Amateur Tailor
For a rental with an era over 4?
scogan
He’s a rental. Not so one sided. If they resign him on the cheap, then yes. If not, you get him for 3 months for one of your solid prospects.
BlueSkyLA
Short of some sort of breakdown over the next two months, nobody signs Darvish on the cheap, and not being tied to a QO in his walk year gives him a big advantage in shopping for a contract next winter.
justinkm19
The Rangers didn’t panic. He’s a rental. We got 3 of your top 20 prospects. The Rangers didn’t have any leverage. We got a lot more than if we would’ve kept him.
imindless
You got 3 of the top 30* Brendan Davis was 28 in dodgers. He sucks btw, can’t hit.
outinleftfield
Brendon Davis was 19th in the BA rankings. Guess it depends on which service you look at and if you were spelling his name with an A, you wouldn;t see him at all. He just got a promotion to High A, so somebody in the Dodgers organization thought he could hit well enough. When he fills out, he is going to be a good 3B with power. Strong arm, good range, not quick enough to play short, but plenty good for 3rd.
Alexy is going to be the key to the trade long term. In spring training Koufax said he had the best curveball he had seen from a kid his age. High praise. Especially considering Alexy didn’t start pitching until mid way through his junior season in high school.
Calhoun will end up a DH/LF in the AL, which where he fits best. He is an elite hitting prospect. Not many with his skills at the plate. The knock on him has been fielding at 2B, which won’t be an issue with the Rangers. Look for him to join them in September when rosters expand and stick next season.
outinleftfield
The Dodgers got 2 months of Darvish for 3 prospects, one of which who is an elite hitter, and that is one sided? What world do you live in? Calhoun will be an All Star DH for a decade or more. His problem is that he can’t play defense. The Rangers may slot him Calhoun in at DH in September of this season and certainly coming out of camp next year. Calhoun’s projected floor is worth so much more in terms of wins than 8-10 starts by Darvish that it’s pretty ridiculous to try to claim that it was a one sided trade.
If you were thinking you would say that because Darvish as of yesterday proclaimed that he wanted to play in 2018 for the Rangers regardless of where he played the rest of 2017, and the Rangers got 3 prospects for him, that the Rangers won this one in a landslide.
As it is, this is a good trade for both sides. For once Friedman didn’t sit on his hands at the deadline and went all in to win it all. He has to be applauded for that. Does this guarantee a WS win? No. Not if Kershaw doesn’t return healthy. The relievers Friedman got were ok, but not anything that would put them over the top. If Kershaw and Darvish are healthy it gives the Dodgers a great one-two punch in the playoffs and keeps Kershaw from having to pitch on short rest, something that has killed him in the playoffs in the past.

Hey dodgers… take me back?
Houston We Have A Solution
Look Scott Van Slyke, don’t take it personally man. The Reds should be good in a few years. Chin up you’re a professional.
wiggysf
I wish the Giants had done more. We could have gotten something out of a nothing season
dodgerfan711
Who could they trade that has value other than the franchise catcher and bumgarner?
frankiegxiii
I’m guessing Strickland maybe?
hodor 3
Brandon Belt. Shark. Strickland. All relievers not named Melancon.
AndThisGameBelongsToMySanDiegoPadres
Shark has no trade value
wiggysf
Not for actually good prospects. Salary dump. Trade Shark, span for little return. Strickland could bring something back.
bigcubsfan
Wow. I like Cubs.
Bob Knob
What happened with that ultra-valuable prize … Brad Hand ?
frankiegxiii
That’s not nice
outinleftfield
He will continue to get more valuable with every save the rest of the season.
leftcoaster
Calhoun is a certified assassin with the bat. Dodgers will regret dealing him big time unless Darvish greatly contributed to a championship. I wouldn’t have dealt Willie.
AndThisGameBelongsToMySanDiegoPadres
I want to see Darvish re-sign with the Rangers for the sole reason that it would be a slap in the face to everyone who thinks teams have no chance to sign a player they just traded away.
Anyway, I’m sure that before trading Darvish, JD had a chat with him and made sure that they were on the same page. That there would be no hard feelings from a trade and that there was mutual interest in a reunion this offseason. He was always going to test free agency so if they aren’t winning anything this year, might as well get something for him. Calhoun will be good for them.
hodor 3
Yu absolutely will not re-sign. He is on record as saying so after receiving what he felt was a very insulting extension offer in the spring. That was said on the 31st too, so that is still lingering in his thoughts.

Dodgers – Yankees Geaux Yu !!!
