This doesn’t make sense. The Padres fans were saying they were going to get Soto and Kieboom for Hand. What happened???? HA!
outinleftfield
What doesn’t make sense is the Nationals moves. Kintzler is not the dominating closer a team needs in the playoffs. Kendrick? Why?
Hand will get more valuable as he closes more games. In the offseason, there will be more teams bidding on his services as well. The Padres will get their asking price for him. Everyone second guessed why the Padres didn’t trade Kimbrel at the deadline and then they got that huge haul for him in the offseason. Waiting can pay big dividends when you have a player that good with 2 more seasons of team control.

Braves managed to not trade the vets they should’ve… :/
southi
Yes a very disappointing DUD of a deadline for Braves fans because several vets should have been aggressively shopped at least. Admittedly Suzuki is the only one of the rentals who probably peaked anyone’s interest and with Lucroy and Avila dealt I’m not sure of any other team that needed a catcher (Nationals maybe?). Perhaps Phillips to someone? Really a buyer’s market this deadline.
realgone2
Yeah I’m puzzled on why they did nothing. I don’t buy the AJC spin. They’re like the soviet paper.

Most Teams needed Pitchers not Bats and still have August to grey a Bat if cleared in need one and Midnight should the time of Deadline or allow Trades all year round then can easy Trade a guy in August or September without have to put them on Waviers but do like MLB Network coverage of it.

The few Braves trade candidates who’d probably slip through the waiver wire won’t have much demand anyway. I think they’re pretty much done until off season.
vacommish
Very disappointing, indeed. The fans and the players needed to see something to move this team forward. Meanwhile, swept in a 4-game series by the last place Phillies including losing three games by 1 run. Starting to look like there isn’t a plan.
WouldSettleForWildcard
The last thing the Braves needed was to unload competitive starters for mid tier prospects who would likely never see the major leagues. It’s not about “should they move veterans” it’s about “what can they get for their veterans.” After watching this front office for years, I am pretty sure they didn’t leave trades for top tier prospects on the table. Some years, the deals you want just aren’t there.
2017 Worst Trade Deadline Ever
Are we the only ones not to make a trade? What a joke!
DVail1979
Pretty sure than Cardinals sat on their hands too
wants to be a GM
The Cardinals also didn’t make a trade.

Still have August to trade some of them that will clear waivers, but yeah. Not the deadline many of us hoped for.
2017 Worst Trade Deadline Ever
Might want to include Cespedes’ first name there….

Honestly, and it sounds crazy, but the A’s could have gotten more for Gray if the Phillies would have went for him, he has a year or two left on his contract, and would have been a nice fit to the phillies up and coming rotation with Nola and Velazquez, phillies have infielders that are definitely future Big Leaguers in Kingery and Crawford, who are being blocked by Galvis and Hernandez who In my opinion are the a part of the Phillies future, Maikel could be moved and so could Joseph and Herrera, Only one of Rupp and Knapp will be around once Jorge Alfaro comes around, The Phillies had peices to move but tucked their tails, at least they got rid of Benoit though
ReverieDays
Philly sucks and wasting prospects on Gray would not have changed that.
jleve618
Would look alot different if we hadn’t lost 26 one run games to this point. Not that it matters that much.
ElDuderino99
Yea hopefully they decide to work on that bullpen heavily next season, develope some strong bullpen arms, Since the all star break Iv been saying this would be a much different team if they could hold on to a lead
Tyler 20
so confused that the braves sat on suzuki, phillips, markakis, hell even Dickey. not saying they would have brought much back but some flyers would have been nice. it isnt like they are competing..

Phillies stock piling IFA cash – Otani?
Fact that they got anything for Beniot is a win.
