JUNE 5: Dr. James Andrews has advised Rodriguez to rest his knee for three to four weeks, reports Drellich. Rodriguez will avoid surgery for the time being, then, but Drellich notes that it’s not completely off the table. If he does end up having to go under the knife, Rodriguez would face a five- to six-month recovery, per Drellich. Fortunately, though, he doesn’t have any ligament damage.
JUNE 2, 3:30pm: Rodriguez suffered a subluxation — which is a partial dislocation of the kneecap that he is uniquely prone to — according to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski (via Drellich; Twitter links). The expectation is that Brian Johnson will take the open rotation slot.
2:34pm: The Red Sox will place lefty Eduardo Rodriguez on the 10-day DL, according to Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald. Rodriguez experienced right knee discomfort today after slipping while getting ready for yesterday’s outing. Reliever Brandon Workman will take the open roster spot, per Evan Drellich of CSNNE.com (via Twitter).
Rodriguez was ultimately shelled yesterday, a rare dud of a start in what has been an excellent overall performance thus far in 2017. The 24-year-old southpaw owns a 3.54 ERA with 9.6 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 through 61 innings on the year.
News of a knee injury is of greater concern in his case, though, given his history of such ailments. Rodriguez missed action with knee troubles in 2016 and tweaked the joint over the winter.
While it’s far from clear at this point how long Rodriguez will be out, the absence means the Boston rotation will again be without a key member for at least some time. David Price has only just returned to the majors, which momentarily gave the organization the kind of five-man group it had anticipated over the winter. Righty Steven Wright is expected to miss the entire rest of the season after undergoing surgery on his knee, so another fill-in option will ultimately be called upon to take Rodriguez’s next scheduled start.

I hear the old rock band sing, “It’s the same
Old song and dance”. If you believe that it will only be 10 days and it comes true, you will be the new owner of Nantucket Island.

Jesus Christ we just can’t get healthy at all. One pitcher comes back and another goes down. Wtf is going on?
This team is never gonna be 100%. There’s always gonna be someone hurt every other week it’s just sickening already.

In spite of all the injuries to key players, the Red Sox sport the 3rd best record in the AL.

Just wait until their trip to the Bronx. When Price is shelled on Thursday you may reconsider your optimism;)

Rodriguez is both accident and injury prone – not good.

I’m more concerned the Sox have players getting a lot of playing time that are truly not major league calibre hitters in Marrero and Rutledge. Even when they are on the bench they are not threats as pinch hitters. Right Marrero had a career game in Chicago. They are both adequate in the field however I would prefer to see Ryan Court and Chris Dominguez from AAA that are more capable two way players.
ERod will be missed but I am more concerned about the offensive game along with Beni being left in the #2 slot as his BA drops like a lead weight. Hello JF–maybe JBJ as the #2?

Rutledge has to be carried on the 25 man roster for the year or the Sox have to send him back to the Rockies. Marrero was for defensive purposes at third till Pablo got back. Seeing as how Panda is now back, I hope they send Marreo back down and utilize the spot for someone else, but other than Panda they dont really have depth at 3rd with Holt on the DL and Rutledge sucking over there.

Pablo is looking for a vacation on Nantucket as well.

Rutledge is more of a natural middle IF anyway, also a hit 1st player. Think it’s a good thing now they had to keep him on the 25 man or face losing him with basically junk left at Pawtucket IF positions..I’d love to see Lin get the chance from Portland at AAA as a glove 1st with speed.. But they refuse to promote him over the collection of retread castoff’s currently at Pawtucket playing.. Lin is still young and finally hitting at Portland, albeit singles at a good clip this year
Give him a chance, and slide him over to 2b/3b from his normal SS

Injuries are killing us…….

Relax, even with the injuries the Sox have a lot of talent. So much that mikeyyank will probably be crying pretty soon as the Bombers falter and the Sox take over and go on a healthy run. When you have Sale, Price, Porcello, Pomorantz and Johnson w/ ERod in a month and Kimbrell closing and Bennintendi, JBJ, Betts, Bogarts, Pedroia, Moreland, Hanley and 2 good catchers, they will win more than their share of games even with injuries. Every year injuries happen. This Sox team is loaded with talent. Yanks have good young players but let’s see how well they do after the pitchers study film and make adjustments and you need great starting pitching to win in MLB – See Cubs, Indians etc..from last year.

“You need great starting pitching to win in MLB”
Not always. Look at the Royals 2 years ago.

My reason for wanting to see the Sox try Ryan Court and /or Dominguez is what do the Sox have to lose. If they designate Rutledge and lose him so be it–perhaps he gets a fresh start elsewhere. Marrero is a good all around fielder who can help with 2b, 3b and SS. As it looks today Pedroia may come off the DL this weekend–either Rutledge or Marero will be sent to AAA.
Brian Johnson should be up for another tryout or Owens or Vasquez shortly.
B-Strong
Johnson hasnt been sent back down yet that I know of. And Rutledge can not be sent to AAA. If the designate him, hes returned to the Rockies per the rules of the Rule 5 draft.
