The Giants have signed outfielder Jerry Sands to a minor league contract, Mike Ashmore of MyCentralJersey.com reports. Sands had been playing for the independent Somerset Patriots, and the 29-year-old will now head to the Giants’ Double-A affiliate.
Sands has only a .670 OPS over 464 plate appearances with the Dodgers, Rays, Indians and White Sox during his big league career, though the right-handed hitter has produced a very solid .285/.335/.477 slash line against lefty pitching. Much of Sands’ experience comes in the corner outfield slots and he has a handful of games at first base, so he brings a bit of defensive versatility.
Sands is the latest veteran outfielder signed by the Giants as the team tries to fix an already-thin outfield that has been further hampered by several injuries. San Francisco has added the likes of Melvin Upton Jr., Drew Stubbs and Justin Ruggiano on minors deals, with little impact (Upton underwent wrist surgery and Ruggiano was recently designated for assignment). Hunter Pence’ imminent return from the DL will be a big help for the Giants, but with left field still a question mark, there is certainly opportunity for Sands to return to the majors.

so no one made this dude into a power bench option on the show? y’all need SIE San Diego. or whatever.

If you have a messed up mouse, head to Best Buy or Amazon to rectify. A mouse is rather important to making clear points. Also consider what’s wrong with your keyboard.

That comment doesn’t get rave reviews

Its not that it was a grammar mistake. We just have no idea what tf you are saying

It was clear as daylight! The commentator merely suggested the SIE San Diego* is an essential part of daily life in the modern age from which all posters on this forum could surely benefit, and it’s bewildering to the common person that no team has yet converted Jerry Sands into a power hitter on a major league roster bench**. The poster then expresses ambivalence towards the whole theory, and postulates that other possibilities exist.***
*I have no idea what this is.
** Or what this means.
*** Or what these could be.

Giants are a mess.

How many teams does this make for Sands now ????
kbarr888
Pretty much “Every team”….and a few teams more than once……LOL

Better question, how many left fielders does this make for SF now ?
The “throw s**t against the wall” tactic isn’t working so well this year.

He was part of the Hanrahan deal that brought Joel to Boston. Great deal for the Bucs.

I saw Sands play when he was with the Dodgers’ organization in Albuquerque and also watched the Indians’ Playoff series where he was a key clutch hitter for the Tribe. I like Sands. He’s got the right attitude, he hits with power and comes trough in the clutch. He lacks playing time in the majors and I think most MLB clubs have passed him over now because of his age. In my opinion, he will definitely be of help to the Giants. I’m glad to see he’s still in the game.

As I suspected, Jerry Sands did an excellent job for the Giants in the 2017 Season at Richmond finishing 3rd out of 44 players with a BA of .298, OPS of .885 and playing in only 64 games in 2017 he hit 17, doubles, 4 triples, 5 home runs and drove in 28 runs. What I think is significant is that he had the 3rd highest batting average on the team of all players who played in 30 or more games. He’s a good ball player and I’m certain that the Giants appreciate what he’s done so for.
