We’ll track the day’s minor moves here:
- The Mariners have acquired minor-league third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean from the Reds, per an announcement from Triple-A Louisville (via Twitter). It’s not yet known what Cincinnati will receive in return. Mejias-Brean is a 26-year-old who was taken in the eighth round of the 2012 draft out of the University of Arizona. At times, he has been considered one of the organization’s better prospects. But his star has faded in recent years as the early promise has not translated to the upper minors. Over 546 total plate appearances at Triple-A since the start of 2016, Mejias-Brean has slashed just .232/.293/.310 with six home runs.

Hmmm…interesting. Worst case he was a depth piece but I get he was fading fast. Curious how this deal came about and the return???
BrandonGregory74
It came about because they want to get Senzel headed toward the show. I would imagine it will be a cash return.

Senzel is in A . Not gonna be ready anytime soon just seemed early to make the deal but I get the idea. Cash works lol maybe a bag of seeds or two also

Yes, trade a AAA bench player so a High A player wouldn’t be blocked.
Makes total sense.

That was my confusion in no way was Mejias-Brean blocking Senzel. If anything Blandino and Dixon are blocking him.

Well, Suárez is who’s blocking Senzel from the majors. Nobody in the minors will stand in his way. He’s still at least a full year from the majors though. Late 2018 or early 2019 is when he will be ready
BrandonGregory74
Have they announced the trickle down from this move?

Spring training 2018, that’s when Senzel will be pushing for a spot on the big club. I’m not sure it’ll be at 3B. Corner outfielders should also be nervous.

Why Dixon? Reds planning to play Dixon at shortstop!!! That’s why they want to trade Cozart, Cozart is blocking him!
cincysports24
Dixon isn’t being blocked….they want peraza at short and Dilson Herrera at 2nd. Dixon is merely a bench player at best.
