The Dodgers announced that they’ve claimed left-hander Justin Marks off waivers from the Rays and optioned him to Triple-A. Outfielder Andre Ethier was transferred to the 60-day disabled list to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
The 29-year-old Marks has a 1.74 ERA in 10 1/3 innings for the Rays over the past two seasons, but he’s also issued 10 walks against just seven strikeouts in that sample. Marks has had questionable results through his minor league tenure as a starting pitcher, though he dominated left-handed opponents last season in his work between the Majors and minors; same-handed opponents mustered just a .199/.268/.344 batting line against Marks in 168 plate appearances.

Somebody hit his numbers with two ugly sticks. Hope we never see this guy in an actual game.
Maybe the real news here is Ethier to the 60-day.

Yeah, with the herniated disc and the option/buyout, I’m wondering if we’ll never see Ethier in a Dodger uniform again.
BlueSkyLA
Unless he needs back surgery, I suspect he’ll show up some time during the summer. If he does it’s more or less career over.
thinkblech
Yeah, I don’t suspect anything as far as back injuries go, surgery or otherwise, recovery varies so much from one person to the next. On top of that, if he’s an obstacle for Bellinger’s PT, they should just give him his walking papers at that point.
CompanyAssassin
They don’t seem that bad, they’re obviously inflated in his 1 appearance this year due to 1 home run. His prior season wasn’t bad, if he could get his walks in check he could probably be decent.
CompanyAssassin
I’ll take that back, his minors overall seem pretty rough, but there seems to be 2 extremes with him, good or flat out awful.
BlueSkyLA
Check out his minors stats. Not a lot better. (Chris Hatcher, v2)

Except Hatcher is still averaging 95 with the heater, where Marks is under 90. He’s just very lefthanded.
