The Padres have claimed righty Kirby Yates off waivers from the Angels, per an announcement from the Los Angeles organization. Yates had been designated for assignment recently.
Yates, 30, only made it into one contest for the Halos this year. Over his 98 2/3 total MLB frames since the start of the 2014 season, he owns only a 5.38 ERA. But he has also generated 10.4 K/9 to go with 3.7 BB/9 in that span and showed career-best fastball velocity (94 mph) in his sole MLB appearance this year.

I feel like this makes sense for the Padres.
Dominic 2
Nothing makes sense over there

PRINT THE WORLD SERIES TICKETS NOW!!!!!!!!!!
padresfan
You’re turning into harry
Your bitterness can be felt across the county
dvmwitt
You’re so original!
ronaldreagan
The padres will most likely not be playing in the world series.
agentx
Very diplomatic response, Mr. President.
I Believe We Can Win
Like you or I could afford world series tickets + cost of going lol. Much as I would love to go, maybe when I retire.
outinleftfield
Padres have such roster problems with guys that have no options that I wonder how they are going to fit him on their 40 man roster.
dvmwitt
Bethancourt, who was out of options, was dfa’d yesterday…that’s how
lesterdnightfly
What, Bethancourt cleared waivers? Tell WCRyan !
AndThisGameBelongsToMySanDiegoPadres
Who gets sent down to make room for Yates? (He is out of options)
dvmwitt
I’d say Quackensnatch or Stammen (not sure he can)
bleacherbum
Quackenbush most likely, he has been on a non-stop round trip to El Paso from San Diego since the season started.
davep-3
Let’s hope Stammen goes away.
lesterdnightfly
How about Bethancourt? Anybody know if he might clear waivers…?
; }
AndThisGameBelongsToMySanDiegoPadres
What a waste of a comment.
bleacherbum
Oh and what do you know another ex-Angel or Cub pitcher added to the fold. Even more the lack of home grown talent on the 25 man roster right now is scary. Only 4 players were drafted and developed by San Diego (Renfroe, Hedges, Quackenbush and Spangenberg) the rest are either rule 5 guys or from the Angels, Cubs and even Mariners organizations with Blash, Sardinas and Maurer coming from there.
kingtopher
So what? They’re clearly in a big push to turn that around, but it doesn’t happen overnight.
bleacherbum
So what? So, it shows the mediocrity in the organization when it came to drafting and developing over the past decade if not longer, that’s what. I know what they are doing now but I felt like highlighting the point. Is that okay with you?
mrpadre19
Or it shows that they traded a lot of them.
Trea Turner,Mallex Smith,Jace Peterson,Matt Wisler,Logan Forsythe,Chase Headley,Brad Brach,Nick Vincent,Zach Eflin……even Corey Kluber.
You can’t just discount all these players they drafted and developed and then traded for the players they have now.
AndThisGameBelongsToMySanDiegoPadres
At least pay attention to the players you are citing before citing them.
Smith, Peterson and Wisler are all pretty meh. Relievers like Vincent are a dime a dozen. Headley was a free agent at the end of the season so he was gone either way. Eflin is doing alright but we have better pitching prospects now. And at the time Kluber was a struggling 24 year old AA repeater and was traded for a guy who filled a need (or at least was supposed to) for a contending Padres team.
GareBear
Most of those guys would still out perform the current roster. But his point was that they have had a few hits. Even if it wasn’t with the Pads which is true.
padreforlife
Good until last sentence makes no sense.
mrpadre19
I didn’t say they are great……if I do anything it’s “pay attention”,thanks.
I was pointing out all the players the Padres drafted who are on major league rosters other than San Diego’s.
Bleacherbum made it seem like they didn’t count as major leaguers who the Padres org. drafted.
They do.
mrpadre19
I forgot Matt Andriese and Joe Ross.
With Bauers,Fried and Peterson(Dustin) still to come.
Plus I’m sure there are others I’m forgetting.
Point remains.
