Really don’t understand the ESPN (Schoenfield) article linking Longo to ATL where he also mentions parting with Albies and more to get him, and ATL paying much of the $99M remaining.
There are so many things that will need to happen in 2017 for this to be possible. 2-3 SPs in the rotation will most likely be gone in 2018 (Dickey has an option, I believe), which means we need to have anyone fill that rotation, and Wisler/Blair aren’t looking like those guys. Would love that to be Max Fried, if he continues to develop (starting at AA), and possibly Newcomb trying to stave off becoming a closer. Also, we need to fill the 2B position, and if we’re trading Albies, we better hope Demerrite pans out or Sean Rodriguez can play every day 2B in 2018 (presuming Longo plays 3B). As much as I like Longo, we’d be taking on money and trading top talent, and not finding a starter, putting more pressure on our pitching prospects to pan out (and the right ones, considering some of those would presumably be headed to TB to get Longo).
If we had to pick between Longo and Archer, I’d hope for Archer – knowing we’re not getting both (together or separate).

Take anything by Schoenfield with a grain, no box, of salt. He likes to get clicks. As to his baseball acumen, he dissed Bo Jackson’s abilities as a ballplayer.
