The Rangers announced today that righty Brady Dragmire has been designated for assignment. His roster spot will go to outfielder Carlos Gomez, whose one-year deal was also announced.
Dragmire, 23, continues his recent roller-coaster. After the Pirates picked him up from the Blue Jays in October, he had landed in Texas via waiver claim. Now, he could again be exposed to the waiver wire.
Pitching at Double-A last year, Dragmire compiled 72 innings with a 4.38 ERA and 5.1 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9. While those figures don’t jump off the page, the young righty has a history of well-above-average groundball induction rates, which helps explain his appeal.

Gomez held the Astros line up back for much of the year. Then the errors caught up to him. He didn’t cost us the season but he sure as hell didn’t help. I would say good luck to him but he is playing for the rangers. I hope he keeps thinking his struggles are more mental than mechanics.

Castro/Marisnick/Keuchel/Mchugh/Fiers/Sipp. Funny it only took Gomez 134 to surpass his sum total with the Stros. Maybe you need to look at the Astros organization.
Sincerely,
JD Martinez/Johnathan Villar

Tsolid, Gomez was trash last season. End of story.

Until he went to the Rangers. Seems like there might be a bit of an issue within the Astros’ organization.
txphi_991
His BA jumped 21 points in 133 PA’s when he had 323 with Houston. The numbers speak of some sort of Astros issue

Tsolid will be eating his words in six months

The struggles were mechanics and the Rangers helped him adjust and the enthusiasm in the Rangers clubhouse helps. Obviously, these are factors the Astros couldn’t give Gomez or he wouldn’t have tanked in Houston.

The main factor was Rangers Let him Be himself w/o subtle media criticisms and leaking stuff to the media about him

He ranked at the end of Milwaukee too

Yeah, there’s no doubt in my mind the astros organization really held him back. I mean, just look at Altuve and Correa, geez. There’s also that kid in the bullpen, Devo, my goodness. Astros really slack when developing players, they should take notes from the rangers and how well they’ve done with top prospect Gallo.

How did Devo, Correa, Altuve factor into the head to head matchups the last two years?? I’ll be waiting to see your response with excuses

Astro fans are salty and should be, Gomez sucked in Houston. But he’s a fit in Texas and played extremely well, it’s a clubhouse thing for him. His play is bi polar but when he’s on he can be elite
