The Red Sox have designated righty William Cuevas for assignment, per a club announcement. His 40-man spot was needed as the club purchased the contracts of lefty Robby Scott and top infield prospect Yoan Moncada.
Cuevas, 25, received a brief major league promotion earlier this year, allowing six walks in the five frames he pitched. He has spent the bulk of the year at Triple-A, where he carries a 4.19 ERA over 131 frames. Trouble is, Cuevas wasn’t able to maintain the strikeout rate he had shown in prior years, as he K’ed just 5.8 batters per nine in that span.
The 27-year-old Scott gets his first major league nod after turning in 78 innings of 2.54 ERA pitching with 8.4 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9 at the Triple-A level. He’ll be joined by Moncada, who is considered by some to be the top prospect in the game. (Read more on Moncada’s promotion here.)
The red sox bring up yoan moncada and ur article title is “Red Sox Designate William Cuevas”. Wtf!
We all knew that was going to happen since it was an article a couple of days ago.
No need to be rude.
Purple is not a good color. And the article title is random. Don’t be so soft in your purple.
Start Wearing Purple is my favorite song.

I’m more of a through the roof underground kind of guy.
I didnt mean to come off as rude, more of a surprised reaction
Chill out
I don’t see the Scott-over-Cuevas thing. Cuevas isn’t all that bad, while Scott has been primarily a “stat” pitcher who’s name has seldom been brought up as a potential major leaguer.
Cuevas was of no use. Doubt even in the NL as a middle reliever. One of the career AAAA guys who will hang around like that if he wants to play. Boston has more like that. Noe Ramirez is yet another currently wasting a 40 man roster spot who has absolutely -0- out pitches and throws junk.
Am inclined to include Brian Johnson in that list, but *maybe* one more chance. Doubt he’ll ever be more than another wasted trash throwing #1 pick wasted however, like Trey Ball, Kris Johnson, Caleb Clay… This organization wasted a slew of #1 picks on trash throwing pitchers, rather than people who had even a mediocre FB before Matt Barnes and Kopech.
Not sure it’s really time to call Brian Johnson a bust, he still has some potential, his ceiling is still that of a 3-4 starter IMO
Trey Ball will be back.
Gee you think him being a lefty might have a little something to do with it….and could he possible be as bad as Abad?
It was definitely Abad trade.
Goodnight sweet prince.
Scott looked pretty good tonight in the 9th. Seems like a pretty good move to bring him up over cuevas. Moncada had his moments too especially the long laser throw from third and showed patience in his first AB with a walk and once on base showed his speed by scoring from first. You can tell he’s gonna be special, only bad thing I saw him do was that if he’s gonna run in front of the shortstop to field a ball, he better get it cleanly or stay out of the way lol, jk. He will be fine.
