Here’s the latest from around the AL Central…
- The Tigers aren’t likely to pursue outfield help unless Cameron Maybin has a setback, manager Brad Ausmus told reporters, including MLB.com’s Jason Beck. Maybin is on the 15-day DL with a sprained left thumb and hasn’t begun swinging a bat yet, so while a return by the end of the 15-day period (on Friday) doesn’t appear to be in the cards, Ausmus is optimistic that Maybin will be back sooner rather than later. Tyler Collins has been filling while Maybin is out, though as Beck notes, there was speculation that Carlos Gomez could be a fit for Detroit.
- The Twins don’t look like a match for Alex Rodriguez, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press writes. Minnesota probably isn’t in any position to give at-bats to a veteran when the team has so many young players, and A-Rod’s inability to play the field is also a factor. “We’ve got a lot of DHs. If you’d ask me if he’d be a fit here, I don’t see how we could find any place to get him much of an opportunity,” manager Paul Molitor said.
- Todd Frazier hopes to stay with the White Sox even if the team undergoes a rebuild, as Frazier tells MLB.com’s Scott Merkin that he would embrace the role as veteran leader of a younger clubhouse. “If I was here, shoot man, it would be great. I know what it takes to lead a team….These guys understand that I care for all of them. If that’s the way [GM Rick Hahn’s] going, and I’m still here, I’ll take that with open arms,” Frazier said.
Frazier is a Yankee next year watch.
They don’t need another Headly
Headley with 40 homer power? Basically the tailor made Yankee for the past 20 years!
headley hasn’t won a derby before
Yankees need starting pitching.
Not a chance the Yankees even take a look at him.
No he’s not
Maybe a Met, but not. Yankee.
T FRAZIER FOR C FRAZIER
No way to much talent in the farm now
“The Twins don’t have an interest in A-Rod.”
I would think if A-Rod wanted to continue his career, Minnesota would be one of the last places he’d sign.
Agreed. Last place Minnesota? No way….Miami would be make the most sense though if the Fish were to acquire his services..But I believe A-Rod is staying put.
What contender is going to want a-rod (other than Miami which is a long shot imo)? Best shot a-rod has is an AL team at the beginning of a rebuild. Maybe the Angels could be interested?
A team with no farm depth and truly needs help. With their injury at 1B and the possibility to platoon the two next year, A-Rod is a great match for Miami. Just got to pull out the glove again.
Sure, let’s move Pujols to the bench.
Staying put?? As in not playing anywhere? He doesn’t have a team currently, he was released……
He also signed a new contract to instruct with the Yankees.
I don’t see A-rod going to a NL team….
I’d be surprised too. Best opportunity he’d get there is to pinch hit
I think he has such a massive ego and wants to get to 700 so bad that he’d sign anywhere that would give him AB’s. Glad he’s not going to MN.
Hopefully maybin comes back close to when he’s eligible to. The man’s been an absolute catalyst for the Tigs this year.
If I were Todd Frazier with my 1.1 War for 2016, I would worry more about rebuilding my approach at the plate over whether or not I was in the White Sox future plans. Good teams aren’t interested in the “feast or famine” approach this guy has.
Yankees absolutely need to spend on pitching. Tanaka looks Ike he should have had the surgery. Severino has been awful. CC. just an old guy. Evoldi stinks.
For all the talk of the trades they made they got four actual prospects. Frazier, Torres, Sheffield and possibly Tate although why would Texas trade the fourth pick in the draft? McKinney is a fringe guy. Frazier isn’t found anything in the minors except talking. Torres who knows. He’s 19. Yankees got screwed in these deals. Should have dealt for upper minor league talent.
You really have no clue what you are speaking about do you? Are you trolling?
Frazier is in AAA. One of the relievers they got back is already on big club. McKinney is in double A. Torres is in high A. Wtf are you talking about?
Was there really any speculation that Rodriguez might be headed to Minnesota in the first place?
I think Bowden said it. He says things that don’t make sense all the time.
The Tigers should give Gomez a try whether Maybin returns on time or not. They could use a veteran OF instead of trotting Aviles out there. Hanging out with Miggy, Victor and J.D. would do Gomez’s fragile psyche some good and give the Tigers a RH bat off the bench they currently don’t have.
The White Sox should trade Frazier in the offseason. They need to rebuild in the worse way, and Frazier’s value will be sky high. I like his power and attitude, but he’s not the sort of player you build a team around.
The White Sox should build a Death Star
