The Red Sox have designated infielder Sean Coyle for assignment, the team announced. His roster spot will go to utilityman Michael Martinez, whose acquisition is now official.

Coyle, 24, was originally a third-round selection in the 2010 draft. He had shown plenty of promise in the 2013-14 campaigns, when he posted .800+ OPS batting lines with double-digit home runs at High-A and then Double-A.
Things haven’t progressed quite as well since, however. Following a tough 2015 season, Coyle has posted a meager .165/.263/.280 slash over 250 plate appearances this year while splitting his time between the Double-A and Triple-A levels.
What do you guys see the lineup as being once Benintendi and Moncada join it in the future?
1. Betts
2. Moncada
3. Bogey
4. Hanley
5. Benintendi
6. JBJ
7. Sandoval
8 Shaw
9. Vasquez/Swihart, etc
Just spitballing. This is assuming Ped goes when Moncada comes
Pedroia isn’t getting traded…
Can’t see the Red Sox moving Pedroia.. Sandoval much more likely to be DFAed.
1 Betts RF
2 Moncada 3B
3 Bogaerts SS
4 Ramirez DH
5 Bradley CF
6 Benintendi LF
7 Pedroia 2B
8 Shaw 1B
9 Vazquez C
Not really what I think the batting order will eventually end up, but it’s a start.
I would say this is likely accurate. Maybe leave Pedroia 2nd, Moncada 4th and Hanley 5th and drop JBJ.
Moncada has 16 HRs in 157 MiLB games. Don’t think hes a clean up hitter.
Assuming no outside acquisitions, which obviously will happen but aren’t predictable, I’d put Travis in there over Shaw. I don’t see any reason he can’t be healthy and productive by late 2017 or early 2018
He’s still really learning how to hit. Power is starting to go up at Portland early on, we’ll see how that works. 4hr 63ab after his promotion to AA
Not a lot of bop in that lineup. That’s one thing the Red Sox have not had, outside of Papi, is a big, consistent HR threat.
If Betts’s power is for real I could see him moving down in the lineup and maybe see Moncada leading off in the future
Had to wonder how long until this happened.. Pedroia Jr.. Little guy with a big swing and lots of power, just couldn’t stop trying to pull everything and pitchers figured out just throw the ball on the outside part of the plate and he’d hit grounders/popups on the R/S a lot of the time.
Maybe he can change.. Noticed few weeks back he seemed to get a bit more patience at the plate for several games and took some walks while at Portland, something different. Another issue he always had. Close pitch taking was another problem for him and after a few games? He was back to swinging at most close pitches again.
Good luck to Coyle.. Both he and Garin Cecchini were the 2 way overslot bonus guys from 2010 and supposed to be big guys.. Neither hit it tho.
Cecchini is doing better wherever he is now I heard. Brewers or Mets maybe? I don’t recall.
Garin is in Milwaukee, but he still sucks when you park-adjust his numbers. His younger brother Gavin plays in the Mets system, he’s a legitimate prospect playing well
He is terrible Connor just terrible just
Ok bud you need to stop
Ok bud you need to stop
If the Phillies aren’t sold on Cesar Hernandez as a long term option, might as well take a shot at Coyle.
And good god.. Mini Martinez is actually a trade deadline pickup for a contender. Phillies fans everywhere are laughing at this just because it is entertaining.
Who?
Don’t worry about it
Kid just stop already you don’t say anything productive.
Kid your life isn’t productive
You say nothing when you talk other than throwing whatever you cook up for a half baked insult out your rear end.
Don’t get so upset Connor just because your life isn’t important doesn’t mean you have to be upset
Really? I’m not upset. I’m just stating that if you use this, you should use it for discussing the topic of the article, not running through multiple articles hucking insults out the second they pop into your head because you’re a troll who disagrees with what someone says.
Thanks. Gavin is who I was thinking of!
