The Brewers have announced that they’ve claimed righty reliever Rob Scahill from the Pirates and optioned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The Bucs designated Scahill for assignment when they claimed Eric Fryer from the Cardinals last week.
The 29-year-old Scahill has spent the season bouncing back and forth between Pittsburgh and Triple-A Indianapolis. He’s generally had good big-league results in two seasons with the Pirates, with a 3.26 ERA, but he’s posted somewhat underwhelming peripherals (7.1 K/9, 4.2 BB/9). Previously, he’d appeared in parts of three seasons with the Rockies. The Brewers probably liked that Scahill entered the season with less than two full years of service time, however, and that he can still be optioned back and forth to the minors.

Gotta grab bullpen arms while they can. Would expect to see Torres and probably one of Jeffress, Smith, or Thornberg traded so someone will have to fill those spots..

I honestly don’t know how you can say he had good results in his 2 year Pirate stint. His WHIP last year was almost 1.6 casting the belief that his ERA was smoke and mirrors, and this year both his ERA and WHIP were atrocious.

He has been one of the luckiest pitchers alive. His stats both last year and this suggest that his ERA and other numbers should have been much higher. He’s not bad in short spurts, but he’s not someone you want inheriting base runners. To me, no big loss for the Bucs.

if you follow the bucs, you know that the bucs are better off without him. the Scahill and Luebke ideas didn’t work

He could help the Brewers! Couldn’t hurt with what we have now! Give him a chance!!
