The Braves have claimed southpaw Dario Alvarez off waivers from the Mets, Adam Rubin of ESPN.com reports on Twitter. Alvarez had recently been designated for assignment.
The 27-year-old has been roughed up in limited MLB action over the last two years. He’s scuffled this year at Triple-A, too, though Alvarez has recorded 27 strikeouts against ten walks in his 15 1/3 innings and has posted better results in the past.

I always thought he would eventually be the key lefty in the Mets bullpen. Stinks to see him leave
woodhead1986
Frankly, he was 5th on the lefty reliever depth chart as far the Mets were concerned; Bastardo, Blevins, Gilmartin, Edgin, THEN Alvarez.

Smokler probably came ahead of Dario too.

Yea but gilmartin is more of along reliever then a specialist and Edgin is injured

good claim- still is a bit salvageable

Hell why not, worth the shot. Think Braves will continue with these small moves.

Probably hoping he shows just enough value to trade for a draft pick in a month.

Why DFA Matuz then? It seems to me Matuz>Alvarez. Plus they are already paying Matuz

Maybe they think they can claim him and then put him in AAA without losing him to someone else. I’m with you on giving Matusz at least a small shot though.

Great post about his position in regard to depth. It’s like Tampa pitching awhile back, some guys were moved/cut bc of roster issues.

16k/9 or whatever that comes out to seems rather beastly.
