The Angels have claimed infielder Rey Navarro off waivers from the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com hears (via Twitter).
Recently designated, the 26-year-old reached the bigs last year briefly in Baltimore. He put up only a .261/.310/.372 batting line over 394 Triple-A plate appearances, but is highly regarded with the leather up the middle.

I’m still just puzzled why we signed Cliff Pennington to a 2 year deal when we could just as easily make claims on good fielding infielders like this.
I know Arte isn’t giving Eppler too much to work with, but some of the moves he’s made are odd to say the least. I don’t think it’s too fair to evaluate him until we see the team in action yet.

Because Pennington has at least a degree of proven ability at the Major League level, particularly with the bat. His bat isn’t necessarily ‘good’, but it’s far more proven than this guy’s.

Good emergency infield piece. Hes young and can field.
