The Orioles are still looking to add talent to the current roster, GM Dan Duquette tells reporters including Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. The club is currently 9.5 games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East and 3.5 games back from the Rangers in the Wild Card race. Clearly, they have their eyes on a Wild Card bid. The team is going in the wrong direction, having lost eight of their last nine games.
Per Duquette, “if we make any deals, it would be because we are focused on helping improve the team.” He also confirmed that the club is focused on the 2015 season. Earlier in the week, we learned that the Orioles have been active on the waiver wire with one unnamed GM saying, “the Orioles seemingly claim everyone.”
Baltimore could deal an impending free agent like Darren O’Day, Wei-Yin Chen, or Chris Davis, but Duquette insisted the idea behind any trade is to improve the current product. In my opinion, the club is weakest in the outfield, rotation, and bullpen. If they were to execute a swap, it would probably be for a fourth outfielder, rotation depth, or middle inning reliever.

If I am the Orioles, I would trade almost anybody and everybody.
Except of course Jones, Machado, and Parra
I don’t think anyone would want Wieters at this late date.
The thing is who even if the O’s acquire anyone, what would it do at this point?
I would love to see Jose Reyes or CarGo, but it ain’t happening.

Yesterday you’re lobbying for the Orioles to let JJ Hardy go in a salary dump, and today you’re lobbying for Jose Reyes?
Hardy is 0.4 WAR, owed 26.5M over 2
Reyes is 0.6 WAR, is owed 48M over 2.
And why wouldn’t you trade Parra? Hes an impending FA whos going to cost north of 35M to resign.

Problem is I don’t see cargo getting through waivers without a team claiming him and the o’s are looking for someone in august. They may take reyes possibly but they will have to take on that contract. I would look somewhere else if I were the o’s until the end of the season

Too Late Now, Baltimore should have moved Players before July 31st Deadline. Another Marginal Playoff Hope Team, Mtg plays Fantasy Baseball for too Long .

I doubt they make any moves other than moving a FA they know won’t resign. After this last week and a half the playoff hopes are dimming faster than a non-paying BG&E customer.
Maybe they can keep a couple of key FAs, but they can’t be serious about moving more prospects to gain players for a long September. The current look is using September call ups to try out prospects and aim towards 2016 with s fistful of bucks for new contracts.

How is Baltimore weakest in the bullpen when the bullpen has some of the best numbers in the Majors? 5th best ERA in MLB, 6th lowest BAA and tied for 3rd lowest blown saves. If anything, the only thing keeping Baltimore afloat is their bullpen while the rotation has been dreadful and the corner OF spots have been a problem all year long.

Baltimore should’ve sold come trade deadline. With so many players becoming free agents, financial restraints, depleted farm system, and a team within the division willing to go all in, it is very hard to want to continue being contenders.
mehs
Depleted farm system that is in first place in both AAA and AA.

Maybe they should look at Shields. He’d help this season plus he might help draw in a few free agents in the off season.
stymeedone
If they acquired Shield’s contract, would they have money left for other free agents?
