The Giants have interest in Drew Stubbs, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com (on Twitter). If the Giants were to sign Stubbs, it would have to be on a minor league deal, he adds.
Stubbs cleared waivers Sunday morning after being designated for assignment earlier this month and released late last week. The 30-year-old Stubbs enjoyed arguably the best season of his career with the Rockies in 2014, but he opened the season with a 6-for-51 slump and was ultimately optioned to Triple-A, where’s he spent much of the year. Stubbs hit well enough in the minors, but his typical power was nowhere to be seen, as he homered just twice at the Triple-A level. He returned to the Majors in early July and has hit well in limited duty, though his overall batting line of .216/.286/.431 leaves plenty to be desired – especially for someone playing half his games at Coors Field.
Stubbs and the Rockies agreed to a $5.825MM contract this winter to avoid arbitration, a raise he earned by hitting .289/.339/.482 in 424 plate appearances last season. Stubbs has always had pretty notable platoon splits, though, and nearly all of his damage both with the Rockies and the Reds came while playing in his hitter-friendly home environments. Defensively speaking, he can handle all three outfield spots with UZR and DRS pegging him as a roughly average center fielder over the life of his career.

Be dogged if I know why the Giants would want him. With Pence and Pagan coming back and Perez, Byrd, Aoki and Blanco already on the roster and Belt available to play left, where is there a spot for Stubbs, who appears to be done?

I don’t think pence will back any time soon honestly. And pagan has struggled to stay healthy. Byrd is about to turn 38. Blanco can struglle against lefties at times Stubbs in triple A would be a nice security blanket he can play all three spots and hit lefties. They wouldn’t sign him.and put gim.in the big leagues. Just depth at triple A incase another wave of outfield injuries happens.

Read it again would be a minor league deal, can’t have to many options

So you claim he would be acquired to help out the River Cats with no thought to being called up? I think not.
Glenn O'Brien
Didn’t say to help them out, but it does help out the Major League Club, you don’t know how long the out fielders are out for assuming Pence / Pagan.

Pagan is always a question mark. Pence could take a while to recover. Perez doesn’t impress much besides his defense. So bringing in Stubbs to have another outfielder when rosters expand is a good idea in my opinion.

If he could help out, yeah. But what about him makes anyone think he’d be of any help? Perez’ stats aren’t any worse than Stubbs and he was a big plus in the playoffs last year.

I’d much rather give the playing time to Perez. Heck, I’d take Perez over Pagan for the rest of this season.

Why? The ad nauseum recyclie of horse bleep.
