The Red Sox have designated righty Zeke Spruill for assignment, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports on Twitter. His 40-man spot was needed for the promotion of Noe Ramirez.
The 25-year-old has worked exclusively at Triple-A this year for Boston, which acquired him from the Diamondbacks on the same day the Wade Miley deal went down. He owns a 5.40 ERA with 3.9 K/9 against 2.7 BB/9 over 53 1/3 innings for Pawtucket.
Spruill had spent time with the D’Backs in each of the last two seasons. In total, he’s thrown 34 big league frames, posting a 4.24 ERA and striking out 23 batters while issuing nine walks.

Would have rather seen Hinjosa promoted instead. Doubts Ramirez’s assortment off offspead pitches will play up at the MLB level. Not that Spruill was any kind of loss, but Hinjosa does possibly have a chance.. if he’s ever given a legit break.

Way to prove the doubters wrong, Ramirez.

It was his 1st game and could have been nerves of course, though he did get hammered tonight..
Still? For a team that some(?) still think are trying to climb back into a PO spot? Throwing away a game like that with this kid in an extra inning tie, when Hinjosa had already been called up, was on the 40 man roster and “seems” to have 1 MLB out pitch (his FB) looked from the outset like they gave away the game tonight to Houston and 4 runs really quick by a guy who they left off the mlb roster last winter and exposed to the rule 5 draft (nobody took either) for a reason… Holes in his game.
