Here’s a roundup of the latest trade-deadline-related news:
- The Royals are still working to upgrade their bench, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports tweets. Â Kansas City is looking at both infielders and outfielders to improve its reserve group.
- Rays reliever Kevin Jepsen is now a stronger trade candidate now that the Rays have slipped to 49-51, Morosi tweets.  Jepsen, who is eligible for free agency after the 2016 season, owns a 2.88 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 through 45 appearances this season.
- Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is adamant that his team should not sell before the deadline, Chris Iott of MLive.com writes.
- Pirates GM Neal Huntington says that he’s not necessarily done shopping even after acquiring Aramis Ramirez, Adam Berry of MLB.com writes.  “We’ve shored up what we felt was our biggest soft spot. We’ll continue to look,” Huntington said. “It just gives us some versatility and flexibility to find where we think the next best match and next best fit is.”  However, he wouldn’t specify what area he might target in the coming days.
- One issue for the Dodgers is that they aren’t willing to part with top prospects Corey Seager or Julio Urias, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com tweets.  At that point, there’s a big dropoff to whoever their No. 3 prospect might be, whether it’s pitcher Jose De Leon or someone else.
- The perception in the market is that the Padres will definitely move Joaquin Benoit before the deadline, Buster Olney of ESPN.com tweets.

Well ya there would be a large drop off from 2 to 3 when the first two are Seager and Urias. Jose De Leon has become a very nice prospect in his own right this year.
justinept
haha right? The recent midseason prospect list has Seager ranked 1 and Urias ranked 4. De Leon is ranked 20th… which, yes, is a huge drop off.
Brixton
Also, don’t forget that Seager and Urias were already top 5 before a good 20 top prospects debuted. If those prospects never debuted, Leon is at 40-45.
Wisler, Franco, Correa, McCullers, Sano, Buxton, Russell, Pederson, Bryant, Soler, Schwarber, Gallo, Heaney, Lindor, Thor, Matz, Norris, Rodon, Swihart, Bradley, Taylor, Sanchez, Pompey Nola, Herrera, Tomas, Finnegan, ERod, Plawecki, Realmuto, Johnson, Conforto, Piscotty, Susac, Cole and Ross have all debuted/lost prospect status since being on the pre-season top 100. Crazy

There’s really no reason to trade Price unless they get a MLB-ready guy like Norris in return. The Twins aren’t a great team and they could easily overtake them.
I also don’t believe that they’ll be that bad next year either. They have about $50 mil coming off the books, and will still have one of the top offenses in the MLB. Even if Price and Cespedes leave for draft picks, they have cash to sign players to replace them.

The Tigers have 9 free agents this yr and big ones two. 2/5 out of the rotation are gone, 3 pieces out of the bullpen are gone as well as cespedes Davis and Avila. Unfortunately there’s only so much 50mil can buy you on the FA market these days. Tigers just need to accept its time for a rebuild, even if they use a similar model to John Hart has done with the braves it would be far more effective then trying to force winners for too long and end up like the Phillies

The Blue Jays and Padres talking SP/Bullpeners but Kimbrel cost to much.
Brixton
Eh, I wouldn’t trade for Cashner, Ross, Kennedy or Kimbrel if I was the Jays. All for different reasons.
bluejaymatt 2
Why not? I’d love to get Cashner
dbeattie
Whilst cashner has had his injury problems he’s a hard thrower with good secondary stuff and has already shown he can be an effective no 2. If the asking price is right I’d want to take a chance on that
Brixton
ERA over 4 on the road away from Petco (2.63 at home, ERA over 4 at Wrigley (his other home)). Extensive injury history, and quite honestly, he hasn’t been that great this year.
dbeattie
That whole rotation has been disappointing this year after being a big strength last year. You have to think that there’s a common problem there. Whether it’s Norris calling a horrible game or what I don’t know but all had pretty strong years last year and have been less than inspiring this year. Plus correct me if I’m wrong Cashner has only one more year of control and is on a pretty cheap contract. Even if he gets hurt as long as you don’t over pay in prospects it doesn’t really hurt you. Especially for a team like the Dodgers maybe even the cubs who are looking for a no.3/4 starter he’s a great fit cos he’s going to be good in those slots with the potential to be much much better. Conversely if they wanted de Leon or Baez or something like that in return you’d just hang up
Brixton
They aren’t going to trade Cashner for anything short of a haul. Hes going to require something similar to Cueto’s contract, due to his upside and his extra year of control.
dbeattie
Then you don’t bite that’s fine. I’m just saying there’s nothing wrong with Andrew Casner as long as you’re not having to pay for him like Johnny Cueto and co. I’d still prefer him over samardzija Gallardo etc
fred-3
Jose De Leon was a better prospect than any of the pitchers the Reds got for Cueto
mrshyguy99
well lucky dodgers dont have the old owners or those top two prospect might of been gone already

The Tigers are in dangerous water. Their aging and ridiculously over paid roster isn’t going to get better. Their farm system is poo and their manager is delusional. Don’t end up like the Phillies! Inject some talent into your system before it’s too late. Trade Price and Cespedes!
Give yourself something to work with moving forward. It’s not all about 2015.
