David Price has generated significant early interest since the Tigers declared themselves open to offers earlier today. Several teams have already emerged as early leaders to get the ace lefty.
Per Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (via Twitter), the Dodgers, Giants, Blue Jays, and Yankees are all in contact with Detroit and make up the “four main teams” in the mix. Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, who was first to note that the Blue Jays had made contact on Price, adds the Astros as a team that is in discussions (Twitter link).
Especially with Johnny Cueto and Cole Hamels now off the market, Price is undoubtedly the best pitching trade piece remaining. He was dealt at the last minute in 2014 for an interesting package in a three-team deal, and now seems destined again to be one of the most-watched names in the final two days leading up to the deadline.
What plus Severino gets this done for the Yankees?
They shouldn’t trade Severino. He’s gonna be a beast in the majors.
You realize we’d have David Price for 2 months right? About 10 starts? 10 starts for 6 years of a top 30 prospect in baseball.
albert almora was 16th, jackie bradley was 21st, jameson tallian was 11th, dylan bundy 17th, jonathon singleton 22nd, kyle zimmer 28th and the recently deceased oscar tavares was 2nd. thats 2013 b.a midseason prospect list. i think all of them would be instatraded for price at the moment.
Prospects are correctly named. How many Top 50 prospects become All Stars? or even above average players long term?
Don’t forget the 6 starts he would have in the playoffs and possibly World Series
Please, Yankees, no. Please, please no.
Yankees have to trade for Price no matter what without giving up Severino or Judge, the rest can go. Pineda and Tanaka haven’t pitched likes ACEs this year and they need one.
I dont think the Yankees can compete with any of those teams prospects if they refuse to part with Judge or Severino.
Agreed, with the comp pick with Tigers would be losing and the Dodgers competing for his services the price will be high
mateo and byrd probably gets it done but they want major league ready, so maybe jacob lindgren as well.
No no no no no no no.
What do the Tigers want for Price? Major league ready pitching. I would offer Nova, Lindgren, and Williams or Lail.
Astros has the Prospects.
Mike Leake is 4-1 in last 5 starts with a 1.25 ERA. Someone take him. I know no one wants him but he’s a very solid #3 SP, plus he can hit and run.
I think the recently acquired Alex Wood being the centerpiece would be good enough for the Dodgers. I don’t believe the Dodgers had any interest in keeping him in LA.
Yes, keeping great young pitchers, with years of team control, is always a hassle. Trading them for rentals is a much better idea.
Agreed Max. Wood fits exactly what Detroits wants in return. It’s about winning now.
Wood fits everything any team would want. He’s a legit #2 starter with years of team control. You would need to be braindead to trade a good #2 starter with 4 years of cheap team control for 2 months of a #1 starter. It makes no sense.
legit number 2? nahhhh. he’s a 3 or 4 depending how it plays out. but yeah the control would be weird to give up but i dont think the dodgers care about him being cheap…
So you want the Giants to get Price, and then maybe miss the playoffs. If you want Price pitching for you, you out bid the others.
Then the Braves must be brain dead
wood, is probably worth price and soria though.
Price AND Soria. NO. Tigers can do better than that.
For Wood? No they couldn’t. Getting Wood for Price and Soria would be a dream come true for Detroit. You’d have him as a very solid #2-3 starter in a shaky rotation for the next 4 years.
It was interesting that trade seemed to stall mid-afternoon with the news that Price was available. Could be the trade was expanded to include Wood for the purpose of a flip.
That’s a big piece for a rental.
Long way to go yet on this deadline.
And it appears that John Hart is continuing to rake. The team will be in place in time for the move to the new ballpark. Textbook.
Price to Yankees for Nova, lindgren, Gary Sanchez
Lol
Refsnyder Nova Sanchez Warren Mitchell and full salary for Price and Kinsler
Change Nova to Severino then maybe.
Yanks said they’d trade for price if he agrees to a contract extension
Price to Yankees No need to trade Judge Or Servino for rental suggesting such is silly. Nova, Refsnyder , another gets it done . Price signs in off season too shaves and Yankee for life
Please Dombrowski, don’t screw this up.
Tigers can sweeten any deal by ADDING Rajai Davis or Alex Avila or Soria depending on need.
They can even package Price and Cespedes together to get a better player.
Wood alone would not work. They can and will get more.
Price and Gomez to Astros,Prospects to Brewers,Friers and others to Tigers?
Price,Gomez to Dodgers,Lee,Delon,Wood,Puig,Either to Tigers and like Guerreo,Anderson,Top Prospects from Detroit?
Why would the Tigers take Ethier? They’re trying to get rid of expensive, non-performing vets, not add more while losing their best pitcher.
Maeto is on Cashmans no way list. He could be great you don’t trade him for a rental
…I’m pretty sure that any trade involving Price to the Yankees would have to include one of Judge or Severino. I don’t think the Tigers would consider a deal without one of the two.
On another note, it’s rather amusing to think that David Price would be #3 on the Dodgers’ rotation.
Dodgers need to trade Wood+ for Price. I don’t think Wood over Bolsinger is an upgrade. San Francisco is about to overtake them in the standings if they lose tonight too so they have to do something.
Key question:
Will the Tigers get more for Price, then they gave up a year ago?
I think so!
100%! The rays traded Price for nothing.
John Hart is doing a great job for the Braves!
Giants are c blocking the Dodgers. Tigers are thankful for that. Raise the Price!
Padres are asking way too much in trade talks.
Tigers should focus on pitching. Not offense.
would you do Norris, Pentecost Sean Reid Foley for price contingent on extension?
Henry Castellanos Not sure how you figure that he’s a rental unlike Hamels locked up for 4 years. He went to Detriot a year ago without Tampa getting much. Astros and Dodgers willing to overpay but not to that level. Cashman won’t break down no way he deals any of those 4 future all stars
Price for Nova (goes to rotation through 2016), lindgren (solid lefty reLiever 6 years of control) Sanchez and Bryan mitchell who hangs up first?
