The Dodgers have acquired infielder Ronald Torreyes from the Blue Jays for cash considerations, the teams have announced. To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers have designated Darwin Barney for assignment and optioned Torreyes to Double-A Tulsa.
The Blue Jays acquired Torreyes from the Astros last month. The 22-year-old has hit a disappointing .175/.208/.200 in the high minors this season, but he held his own at Triple-A Oklahoma City (then an Astros affiliate) as a 21-year-old last season, batting .298/.345/.376. He can also play a variety of infield and outfield positions, which might make him a useful bench player someday.
The 29-year-old Barney spent several seasons as a starting shortstop and second baseman for the Cubs, but Chicago traded him to the Dodgers in the middle of Barney’s disappointing 2014 season. He then wound up in the minors, and this year, he’s hit poorly for Triple-A Oklahoma City, with a .214/.273/.259 line in 121 plate appearances.

I wonder what’s going to happend with guerrero specially now since they promoted olivera to triple a.
Jesus Gutierrez
same thing they are doing to him right now probably put him in left. Its not like hes starting games Callaspo is getting majority of the starts at 3rd i dont know why but looks like Guerrero is going to play LF majority of the time
Carlos760
Guerrero looks like he can play 3rd base better than left field.
Jesus Gutierrez
hes a DH playing in the NL

I’m sure he can bring a good prospect back. Even though he hasn’t been hitting well, he needs playing time to get that value up again.

My guess is the Dodgers are trying to build up trade value for Callaspo. Teams will be looking for infielders during the deadline. Flip him and add more depth since this front office loves making depth moves.

It gets a lot more interesting for Guerrero when Van Slyke comes off the DL, maybe in a couple more days, and Turner is available, which could be any time. Olivera they can hold in the minors until needed. Those other two not.
Carlos760
Not only a crowded outfield but an infield aswell. They should trade players for relief pitchers, hatcher isn’t doing it yimi can’t throw anything besides his fastball. I believe that’s weakness of the team. I don’t see them giving up anything for starting pitchers.
BlueSkyLA
It’s a good problem to have but something will have to give pretty soon. As far as trading prospects for starters, anybody not named Urias or Seager is probably available for the right situation. Keep one eye on Beachy. If he’s available and pitching well in July, the Dodgers won’t have to move anybody for a starter.
Josh G.
Yes they will. Anderson, Bolsinger, Frias, and possibly Beachy are not guys you want to rely on in October.
BlueSkyLA
In October you don’t have to rely on any of those three, if Beachy is available and pitching well. Remember he was very good before the TJ. Taking a flier on Beachy could end up being the smartest move the Dodgers made in the offseason.
Josh G.
Some fans really need to get this through their head, instead of just hopping on Beachy’s Baseball Reference page and assuming he’s still that guy: Relying on a guy coming off of his second Tommy John surgery is worse than hoping Anderson or Bolsinger can come through in the playoffs.
The Dodgers need a third pitcher if they want to win a world series this year, and that’s the only goal the organization should have at this point. Trading the opportunity to put Cueto on the bump in a Game 3 instead of Anderson, Beachy, or Bolsinger for the off chance that someone like Grant Holmes or Jose De Leon can help the team sometime in the future is the definition of missing the forest for the trees. The Dodgers just had an excellent draft, everyone knows they’re poised to swipe up a good chunk of the premier international talent come July 2nd. The farm system can and will be restocked in very short order, the time to make a move for another premiere arm is now.

Yeah, I don’t see the Dodgers moving anyone on the current active roster that is. If the Dodgers do acquire a starting pitcher, I’m not sure it will be a big name like Cueto for example. I think they will go for a guy like Kazmir due to Farhan’s familiarity with him.
