The Braves announced today that they have activated first baseman/outfielder Joey Terdoslavich from the 15-day disabled list and designated outfielder Eric Young Jr. for assignment in order to clear space on the roster.
Young, who turned 30 roughly two weeks ago, made the Braves’ roster out of Spring Training after being in camp as a non-roster invitee on a minor league contract. He was expected to see significant time in the outfield due to Melvin Upton’s foot injury, but the Braves’ late acquisition of Cameron Maybin in the trade that sent Upton and Craig Kimbrel to the Padres cut into his potential playing time. Maybin has been excellent in his first season in Atlanta, while Young has batted just .169/.229/.273 in 85 trips to the plate with the Braves.
As MLB.com’s Mark Bowman tweets, Terdoslavich hasn’t played much yet on his rehab assignment, but the Braves have been looking to bolster their bench for quite some time. In fact, Bowman further tweets that Young likely would have been designated in May had it not been for an oblique injury to Kelly Johnson — another veteran whose strong performance cut into Young’s expected playing time.
Terdoslavich, 26, hasn’t hit much in his limited Major League career to date, but he’s batted .261/.328/.419 in 1135 Triple-A plate appearances over parts of three seasons and had stronger numbers than that when cutting his teeth at the Double-A level.

He must have angered fredi, I’ve never quite forgotten a player was on the team like that

My only question is why? Terdoslavich is the poster child for the old regime’s “all or nothing” philosophy. He’s an absolute butcher with the glove regardless of what position he’s playing and is an awful right handed hitter. He does have power from the left side, but he strikes out almost as frequently as he puts the bat on the ball.
Hart basically swapped out a decent defender with blazing speed, but couldn’t hit for a passable hitter (left side only) that’s a slow footed horrendous defender. Kelly Johnson must be further away from a return than was originally thought.

Joey T isn’t a horrendous defender, you’re being a little dramatic.
Also, his strikeout numbers really aren’t as alarming as you say… Kelly Johnson has historically been much worse with striking out. I actually think Kelly Johnson is a relatively good comparison for Joey T at this point of his career… Solid pop, strikes out a little more than average (Kelly probably being more strikeout prone in his career), decent walk rate, useful at a few positions (1B, LF), and better against righties.
I think the team is just looking for an ideal platoon partner with Gomes in left field, especially someone who can hit the occasional home run. It just so happens that Terdoslavich has a strong minor league record against righties, he has some power, and he’s shown that he’s ready to be given a fair shot.
I hope Kelly does return soon but it would be great to see Joey earn consistent playing time.

young did ok in spring training, getting on base steal a base and scoring runs but freddi has hardly used him at all this season.

I hope my boss doesn’t designate me for assignment

EY was always Quad AAAA material. Terdo while slow a foot and limited, can at least hit the ball over the fence once in a blue moon. Question is, when are the Braves going to replace their blowpen clowns with a real bullpen?

Lets hope they stay away from the mid 30 yr olds

It’s worked before, frieri or Santos seem like good guys to take a flyer on.
I’m ok with Johnson grilli and avilan. Cahill has been good in mop up duties too And cuniff has shown flashes of brilliance. Those last two spots need to be a solid set up man and a workhorse middle reliever though.
Realjb13
I’m ok with Jason grilling to but there isn’t really anybody on the free agent market and a trade would cost too much

Ill assume you wrote this before the game tonight. Cahill needs to disappear from this team. Change of scenery I dont know but hes been horrendous. The last time I saw him pitch a scoreless inning they were up by 7.

and your dream came true.

I hope this isn’t the end for EYJ. I have always liked him. First because his dad was one of my favorites and then just because of his likable personality. His defensive versatility and speed should get him a job somewhere. Perhaps with Boston, they seem to want every DFA’d outfielder.

The Braves Way: No speed or defense.

the angels could use a speed guy like eric young jr at the top of the order and can cover a lot of ground.
