As Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News discussed with host Jeff Todd on yesterday’s MLBTR podcast, the Rangers are likely to be tempted mostly by high-quality arms at the deadline. Corey Seidman of CSNPhilly.com opines that Texas may be the Phillies’ best match in terms of prospects. Seidman speculates that a package centering around Jorge Alfaro and Nomar Mazara — two names previously said by CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman to be of interest to Philadelphia — makes sense for Cole Hamels, as the Phillies are “desperate” to add a young catcher and would like an outfielder with some pop. Seidman wonders if including a rejuvenated Aaron Harang or paying a chunk of Jonathan Papelbon’s contract and including him, too, would entice the Rangers. Of course, all of this boils own to speculation at this juncture, but the Rangers do seem to be a fit given their somewhat unexpectedly strong start. Texas is 28-26 after a win last night, but their ranks 19th in ERA (4.24), 24th in FIP (4.36) and 28th in xFIP (4.51).
More from the AL West to kick off your Friday morning…
- The decision to designate Justin Ruggiano for assignment over Rickie Weeks was not an easy one for the Mariners, writes Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune. “The particulars are not something I want to discuss,” manager Lloyd McClendon told Dutton. “Hopefully, this gives (Ruggiano) a chance to catch on with somebody else. It was a very difficult decision.” As Dutton notes, there was going to be an extreme lack of playing time for whoever remained on the roster, following the acquisition of Mark Trumbo. Dutton also points out that McClendon frequently used Dustin Ackley and Willie Bloomquist as late defensive replacements, rather than Ruggiano, perhaps indicating that the Mariners weren’t particularly enamored with his defense.
- Dutton also spoke with Mark Trumbo, the man whose acquisition led to Ruggiano’s DFA. Trumbo said that the news he’d been traded “was a lot to take, initially,” but that when he found out he was headed to Seattle, his mind eased. “I couldn’t have been happier,” said Trumbo. “I’ve loved coming here when I was with the Angels. It’s one of my favorite places in the country — or the world, for that matter.” Trumbo went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and started at first base in his Mariners debut.
- Astros GM Jeff Luhnow told Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle yesterday that he believes Brady Aiken has joined Jacob Nix in not consenting to allow the Astros to draft him again in 2015, as is his right after not signing in 2014. When a Twitter follower asked Drellich whether or not 21st-round pick Mac Marshall, who also did not sign, had done the same, Marshall himself replied on Twitter to say that he had “no hard feelings” toward Houston and has given his consent to be drafted by the Astros again in 2015.
- Josh Hamilton tells Grant that he’s only had a hamstring injury of this significance one other time in his career in 2007 when he put an extreme amount of effort into rehabbing as he first got back into the Majors following four years of drug-related suspensions. Hamilton likely pushed too hard in his rehab in an effort to get back on the field with the Rangers but says he does not regret how he went about his rehab. Grant reports that he has received a platelet rich plasma injection in the injured area that the team hopes will accelerate the healing process.
Alfaro and nick williams seems fair, mazzara is too much given pitchers aging curves
I’d give up Mazzara before I gave up Alfaro in a heart beat.
I don’t understand this, the approach and receiving scare me with Alfaro. I think he’s overrated. Jmo
You could be 100% right he’s a prospect and could fall flat on his face, my reasoning atm is simply because of how many out field options we have vs catching options, we already have a log jam in the out field, and we have a high draft pick coming up so it seems more logical with how much time and effort Texas has already put into Alfaro, that they will protect him. If they want to go after Hamels they are going to have to give up someone of similar caliber and that I see as being Mazzarra, just my opinion as well. I could be 100% wrong about everything I’ve said here as we are all just speculators speculating!
Where does Trumbo figure to see the most time? DH, 1B, LF/RF?
yes
What seems fair and what the Phillies want for Hamels don’t match up. The Phillies seem intent on “winning” any Hamels trade and getting overpaid in prospects for his services. I think the Rangers are better off waiting to see which teams fall out of contention and try to work out a trade with a more reasonable GM.
Have to agree based on his age and the names they are throwing around.
Although I think they may be asking a bit too much, they are in a great position to. Obviously they are in a rebuilt, but Hamels is a legit ace. They seem fine with keeping him as well so why would they trade him for a package they don’t feel is acceptable? If the script was reversed, any team trying to trade him would demand a similar package.
Isn’t every team trying to “win” their trade?
The Angels tried SO hard to win the Josh Hamilton trade… they didn’t even get a bag of balls for him.
I believe the Rangers won both rounds of that “trade”.
Your right they did and they will shocked the baseball world of getting cole hamels
Daniel Morairity please troll elsewhere, I’m done responding to your drivel.
Im not trolling its the truth
You have been asked numerous times for sources and have been unable to provide them. You are quite literally the definition of an online troll.
Im not trolling i believe the rangers will get cole hamels and harlod Reynolds says that hamels will go to texas
I’m not sure what’s keeping the Phillies from just drafting a high end catching prospect next week in the draft if that’s what they want. Sure, Swihart is there now…but if Boston won’t deal him and I’m forced to take a guy in AA….I’m not sure I don’t just blow a #1-2-3 pick on a catcher.
Alfaro,Mazzara,Luis Ortiz, and either Yrizarri or Forbes….for Hamels……
Most reasonable proposal on this board so far.
Alfaro and Mazara wont leave
You and the guy below are on some serious drugs if you think that trade is even a remote possibility.
You are seriously undervaluing hamels and overvaluing guys in double a
It has nothing to do with his value or their value it’s a combination of what the Phillies want ( which they are not wrong in as I’ve said in multiple posts) vs What the Rangers need and are willing to give up. Those two sides are not going to add up on this trade the way you guys seem to think they should.
Hamels with 3 years of control (+1 yr club options) @ 22.7 mil at age 31 as a legit ace is solid move for any team looking at being a contender.
Texas looks to be a contender and has a deep farm system and we are currently discussing 3-4 top 10 Futures for Hamels a SP. This month Texas has 2 Starting pitchers returning from the DL an additional one in August and a top 20 Futures SP that was just promoted. There are too many log jams for Texas to give up Alfaro who happens to play one of the only positions we are currently shallow and weak in, as well as him being our top prospect.
The Phillies want nothing less than someone of Alfaro and Mazara’s caliber because they are in rebuild mode and thats what they feel Hamels is worth (not wrongly mind you).
The rangers dont trust Matt Harrison or martin Perez at all
Exactly. The point being his was the only realistic proposal of value going both ways.
You say “exactly” and completely missed his point. The Phillies wants don’t match the Rangers needs. You want our best prospect in the position we have the most need. We don’t have a glaring NEED for an ace pitcher at THAT expense.
Exactly to the the point of value. Phillies will get 3 top 100 prospects for hamels or 1 top 10 and a top 50 and another top 200 and lottery ticket. Its not like texas wont be competing with other teams. The other offers are ridiculous, 1 top 50 guy and three non prospects you dont want lol
Rangers will not part with Alfaro for Hamels lol, Mazzara maybe a part of a discussion there but not Alfaro.
I highly doubt they would part with Mazara. It seems like they think way to highly of him.
The exact same thing can be said of Alfaro and we haven’t had a steady solid catcher of his talent in quite a while, meanwhile we have an overload of outfield pieces.
I would seriously doubt Jon Daniels if he traded Alfaro. It seems like since Napoli left there has not been a good catcher. I would deal our outfield surplus but I would keep hold of Williams and Mazara as I believe they can both be special players for the club.
I fully agree I don’t want to see any of the those three go, but we do need arms, and badly. The question is what is the price that’s worth paying because we are in a position to contend. We also have a lot of contracts ahead of some of these guys for a substantial amount of time.
Why dont we wait and see how our four quality starters rehab and comeback
It will be interesting to see how they make their returns with the lengths of the contracts we have signed them too. I am hopeful but to see Harrison returning at all from a back injury like that is almost a damn miracle. Personally I’ve never been to big on Martin Perez but I can always hope to be wrong and pleasantly surprised by him!
I like harrison and I hope he will go back to being a top starter
Ahh, the great catcher Napoli, playing all of 131 games behind the plate in his 2 years in Texas… Rod Barajas was the last man consistently behind the plate for more than 2 years back in ’04-’06, and he was good, but not great. For that you have to go back to Pudge.
Do you think they should trade Alfaro?
Let me answer your question with a question…
Do you think the next Rangers home game will be below 50°F?
no
Trade for Hamels? I seriously doubt JD would ever give up Alfaro. His upside projection is that of a Sunny & Pudge pro catcher. JD will hang tough+ on not letting that gem go, but to the MLB Rangers. Rangers have money & good choices to make a move towards Hamels. A Great Lefty Ace for “the Temple?” Absolutely= West Flag 2015 & possibly more.
who is the Temple
I honestly don’t know who “the Temple” refers to
IS the temple Colby Lewis
Lol, this is really bothering you man!
It is I am dying to know who the temple is
I feel like everyone is in on it but me
I am not saying Napoli was on par with Pudge in any universe but he was dependable at calling games, and plating runs for us making a good player at that position. At this point in time Alfaro projects as a Pudge, and with our need at that position I don’t see him being traded for Hamels.
You are back to a variation of the Hamels to Red Sox discussion. Red Sox won’t part with their best talent, and Amaro won’t trade Hamels (so say nothing of throwing in Harang, Papelbon, and money) for second tier talent. So, there may not be a deal to be made.
Yeah I don’t disagree with you there Mike1L, and I don’t blame the Phillies for wanting to go big, I’m not saying they are wrong. I just don’t see Texas giving up a top 10 future catcher for him right now.
*possible* top 10 catcher with about the same likelihood hes a career backup
Can’t deny that!
They will part jorge Alfaro because Jon Daniels said that he is not high on him and I dont know about mazara that much, but I do know about one pitcher from the minors that the rangers can package from this deal and that is Luke Jackson. Jon Daniels is not high on him either so look for this deal to happen if your both the rangers and the Phillies to get this deal done. I guess you could get harang and papelbon from this deal too so your looking at this here:
Rangers Acquire:
SP Cole Hamels
SP Aaron Harang
CP Jonathan Papelbon
Phillies Acquire:
SP Luke Jackson
C Jorge Alfaro
OF Jake Smolinski
SP Colby Lewis
Again its not exact but it could be huge for the rangers. If Cole Hamels and Aaron Harang were traded to the rangers here’s what the rotation would look like:
Cole Hamels
Yovani Gallardo
Aaron Harang
Wandy Rodriguez
Nick Martinez/Chi Chi Gonzalez
Again this could happen
I just don’t see it happening. Alfaro is our number 2 (3 at worst), prospect at a position that as was pointed out by Thomas Erie, we have not had stability at since the loss of Napoli. Mazara is a top 5 propsect outfielder for us, and Nick Williams is a top 10. Alfaro himself is a top 10 on the national list not just the rangers list. Luke Jackson I could see going. Colby definitely possible, and if Smolinksi can get/keep his value up definitely package him in. I just don’t see Alfaro going, maybe Mazara ( I hope not ) hopefully Nick Williams could get it done.
But obviously Colby Lewis is going to the Phillies in this deal you know it because I lost confidence in Colby his command is not there and he is getting old. Jon Daniels said they are not that high on Alfaro JD so you need to trade him and Luke Jackson along with Jake Smolinski to the Phillies to get Hamels, Harang, and Papelbon and the rangers need pitching help bad
YOu need to have a good catcher to win. Chirinos has not produced well enough. I believe Alfaro can.
Chirinios is an average catcher ok we need to trade Alfaro and Jackson along with Lewis and Smolinski to the Phillies for hamels harang and papelbon. Why is everyone underestimating the rangers they have the prospects and Jon Daniels wants major league pitching
No one is underestimating the Rangers, the trade you are talking about is not a good trade for them.
This will happen i approve this message you will be shocked in trade rumors
The trade for Hamels indeed may happen, but the way you are proposing it. Not a chance.
Wanna bet
Alfaro, Jackson, and Smolinski is along the lines Amaro is looking for for JUST Hamels. You think the Rangers are going to be able to get Papelbon and Harang for Colby??
Yes I do Mr Franklin because the rangers have the prospects and the money to get hamels harang and papelbon
So, you’re having the Rangers pay all of Hamels salary in order to facilitate this deal, and throw in more prospects… so which other prospects are you throwing in?
Only the in this deal that I just put up Luke Jackson Alfaro Smolinski and Lewis for cole hamels Aaron harang and Jonathan papelbon
Not happening, even if the Rangers pick up ALL of Hamels contract. You haven’t won me over on what the Phillies are getting back, and my name’s not even Ruben Amaro… Forget about whether or not I think the Rangers will deal Alfaro… Why would the Phillies give up Harang and Papelbon for Colby Lewis?
Do you think that Jackson, Alfaro, and Smolinski gets the deal done and that Colby for Harang and Papelbon gets the Rangers to pick up the entirety of Hamels contract?? That’s the only way I see this line of thinking working.
Your really underestimating this team Daniel Franklin
I’m underestimating the Phillies desire to trade all of these guys for only 2 good prospects??
Thats all they need is two good prospects they need a good gather and a good outfielder and a starting pitcher
If all Philly wanted for Hamels is 2 good prospects, he wouldn’t still be on the table. Really, you need to look at what the Phillies have turned down.
The Phillies are building for the future they need a top prospect like Alfaro so trade him to texas for hamels harang and papelbon
Don’t you live in fantasy land…
The Phillies are rebuilding Daniel Franklin can you not see what they want they ant hamels gone and they want Alfaro
What they want and what they will get are two very different things.
The Phillies are rebuilding and they want hamels gone
they don’t want Hamels gone, but they realize he holds the best trade value. The Phillies will keep Hamels if they don’t get what they want in return, and Phillies fans will be just fine with keeping our Ace.
Actually, they don’t want Hamels “gone”, they want a return for Hamels that they feel will help them more in the long run than what he can present them. You’re undervaluing both his value and Pap/Harang’s value. If that was the Rangers final offer, Amaro would probably fall out of his chair laughing, then would be calling Cherrington and Zaidi
Rangers want Cole Hamels
That’s fine, they have the pieces that could probably get a deal done. The deal presented, however, would not get it done.
They will get hamels this year you will be shocked
as i said before every team ants hamels in their rotations
im a rangers fan i dont underestimate them I just dont want to trade Alfaro
Alfaro is not the best catcher in the minors Thomas and Jon Daniels said he is not high on him which is exactly why the rangers trade him to the Phillies
Daniel, I am not saying he is the best catcher in the minors I am saying he is our best catcher
Jon Daniels will get rid of Alfaro along with Colby and Smolinski
Smolinski is nothing special neither is Lewis but i disagree on Alafro. Where did Daniels say he wasn’t high on him.
And that offer would get you shark and beckham from the white sox. Lol
lol upvote
Can you offer a citation in support of this assertion (that JD is down on Alfaro)?
thanks for mentioning me
I wish people would stop misremembering the “greatness” of Napoli. He played all of 131 games behind the plate for the Rangers. That’s so much “stability” that:
Chirinos is 10 games shy of that mark
Pierzynski was 18 games shy
Torrealba passed that mark by 9 games
Laird DOUBLED that at 267 in only 1 more year.
Barajas puts the icing on the cake at 315 games in 3 years.
Defining Napoli as “stability” for the Rangers behind the plate is quite literally defining the Rangers as having stability since the departure of Pudge.
Napoli hit
In 131 games as a catcher… over 2 years.
You pointing this out has made me realize how bad it is. Napoli has been our best and most stable catcher and he only played 131 games
No, I would argue that our last truly stable catcher was Pudge, though you could make the argument for Barajas. Napoli was never anything more than a stop gap. Let’s not forget that Napoli hit an impressive .227 his second year here.
sorry after pudge
Napoli made the other team think more before they pitched, he was much more of a threat
I would agree with you about Pudge being the last truly stable catcher in a heart beat. Hence why I don’t think Alfaro is going anywhere.
Chirinos has not been anywhere near the impact player Naps was even if he plays in twice as many games. AJ did a good job just wasn’t a fan favorite. Torrealba made a great platoon partner for him. There is more to a player than how many games they played, such as the quality of those games. Napoli was a solid and integral piece of a team that went further than any other in Rangers history so wish what you want that isn’t going to change.
Some people are confusing stability with performance. Chirinos’ career AVG in Texas is the same as Napoli’s AVG in 2012. The only difference? 80 PAs.
I’ll give you that, and of the catcher we have I do like Chirinos. I’d hope to keep him as back up if we ever move Alfaro up.
Actually, I’d like to see what we have in Tomas Telis before we make a decision on keeping Chirinos. Backup catchers seem to be quite a bit more plentiful than starters.
Telis does look good. I was wanting to get a look at him and/or Alfaro if Chirinos went down on DL.
If anything, Telis would (should) come up and Alfaro would move up to AAA to fill the space. Benefits both of them.
Yeah I agree.
That has to be the worst proposal ive ever seen…
Looking at this, you’re basically trading Lewis for Harang, and since you wouldn’t (based on this years stats) make that trade straight up, you’re throwing in Smolinski as the kicker. I just don’t see that as necessary. This deal would only get done if Amaro would accept Alfaro & Jackson for Hamels & Papelbon.
I see this deal happening Mr Franklin please trust me on this the more wins the rangers get the more chances that they will go after hamels harang and papelbon
what would happen to perez holland harrison and gonzalez
Smolinski has 0 value. Phillies are jn a rebuild and have 0 use for colby lewis. Jackson is a 6th inning bullpen guy .Alfaro is the only piece of value go them. That offer doesnt even get you hamels let alone the other two.
Alfaro won’t go to them so no point in looking at it further then :D.
The way you guys are fan boys over alfaro makes me wonder how much kyle schwarber is worth to you lol. Shwarber for darvish and profar? Lol
Looks like Daniel there has trolled this section quite a bit on Alfaro. I’m sure the Phillies will need some vet arms to eat innings during a rebuild, but I’m not sure they go tear down rebuild… big market team and they have some money. I think we’ll see them restock the system and sign some free agents
I do not agree that they think too highly of him. Mazara is a great prospect for a reason, a lot of raw power, walks a lot, very young for level, improving contact rates. There is a ton to like. I do not think it would be crazy to prefer him to gallo
Why do people keep thinking 3+ years of Hamels is worth less than 1.5 years of Samardzija?
Samardzija got more than he was worth
Or he didnt and prospects are just that. Prospects.
Because Beane made a massive mistake and Theo capitalized on it. The Russell/McKinney trade might go down as one of the most lopsided trades of the past few decades.
It’s only a mistake because of that play in game with KC. If Oakland had made the series and taken home a world series trophy it’d have been worth it. That’s ultimately why the game is played. Compete and play into the postseason. Worst case scenario just happened for Beane…but I’m not sure he won’t capitalize on it in the end. He’s back to tinkering and will have some high picks coming soon.
If all they wanted was 2 top 100 prospects he would already be a cub
The Cubs are 7.0 games behind the Cards and may just prefer to keep their prospects and sign another pitcher in the off season. There certainly isn’t a shortage of options this year.
They claimed him on waivers last year. They like hamels and prefer the 4 years he has left than the 7 the free agents will want.
Claiming him on waivers might have just been a ploy to keep him out of the division, and they also didn’t have Lester at that point. I’m with you, just adding a few bits
Ha I am the person that asked about Mac Marshall. It was funny that he replied to us though. GL to him where ever he ends up 🙂
What about the Mariners on Papelbon & Hamels as both can be useful the way starting pitching and closer Fernando Rodney have both been performing so far this season (DFA Rodney may not be a bad idea)? Ackley, Walker/Paxton, and some prospects including catcher John Hicks are a good match for the Phillies since Revere may not be w/ the Phillies after the season.
Paxton and Walker’s stock have taken pretty big hits this year.
What are other options at pitching in the minor league that the Phillies are targeting from the Mariners as Tyler Olson or Luiz Gohara?
Walkers isn’t too high…but I’d be in on a healthy Paxton. He was putting it together like a poor mans Andy Pettitte.
If there’s Nomar Mazara, where can we find more Mazara?
+1 for the laughs!
I’ve never seen Alfaro play and have zero idea of how much Texas values him. IF they think he’s another Pudge—obviously they would not trade him. It’s all about how much Daniels thinks of this kid’s future. A few years back, it looked like the Rangers had stockpiled several catchers who would be good—-but it didn’t pan out for any of ’em. Salty has been OK….but right now, Texas has a couple guys struggling to get above 200.
I do not see the logic in trading Alfaro
4 and half years of Hamels…..
is hamels contract that long
Hamels contract is signed thru 2018, 7 yrs/$159M (12-18) & 19 team option. That option is $20M Team Option, $24M Vesting Option, $6M Buyout Vests if he 1) has 400 IP in 2017-18, including 200 IP in 2018, and 2) is not on the disabled list with a shoulder or elbow injury at the end of the 2018 season.
With Texas’ luck, they would get Hamels and he would immediately get to work on blowing out his elbow.
lol
“It was a very difficult decision.”
Meaning that Jack Z favored his former Brewer prospect over a superior player. Ruggiano might not be a superstar but at least he has a good slash line against southpaws. Weeks brings nothing to the table. I can’t believe they gave Jack Z an extension despite never making the playoffs during his 6 year tenure.
I agree with you. He hasn’t shown he’s capable to build a team. Only two winning seasons and one all-star from all those drafts. Ruggiano was the better player out of Ackley and Weeks.
The need Phillies need to trade Hamels as soon as possible….to begin a tank job of the rest of this season…for that # 1 pick next June….
This isn’t basketball man. You don’t tank a 162 game season for a guy who won’t even play on the big league club until a year later at the earliest. What the Phillies do need to do is get their young guys game experience to prepare them for the next Phillies playoff team.
Considering how rare good catching prospects are, and how long Texas has groomed Alfaro, I can’t believe they’d trade him, even for Hamels. He’s even showing signs of getting his hitting game a bit more together this year – his defense and pitch calling have always been okay.
I agree they have put so much faith in him that it seems illogical to trade him
Exactly.
Your missing the point Jon Daniels doesn’t want Alfaro he is not high on him
I’d like to see some evidence of this claim you keep making over and over. Can you provide a link to an article?
I want you to back to paring training of this year and look at what JD has said about our and you will see why the rangers will give up on Alfaro
Link?
There is no link I guarantee you that Jon Daniels wants Alfaro gone ask him
yes, I will call him right up
I just called JD. His exact words were, ‘F*** off, leave me alone!” CLICK. Oh well, I guess we’ll never know.
Your joking Konrad your not a true ranger fan
LOL you know the future AND what’s in my mind! What amazing powers you have 🙂 I guess I’m done here. I tried. Have a nice day, fella.
No im serious dude do you really honestly call him
I don’t know why I’m doing research as a result of this interaction with you, but I just did some Googling. What I found is nothing like what you are saying. It seems that JD is actually very high on Alfaro, but that the organization wants him to work on some things this year. They put him in AA because the pitchers are better there. I don’t think you know what you’re talking about, but hey – I could be wrong. You’ve yet to provide a single reason to believe you other than “you say so,” which frankly carries little weight.
Konrad this deal will happen
unfortunately i am not in daily contact with Jon daniels
He wants Alfaro gone Thomas can you not see it
No one can see a want. It’s literally impossible to see non-tangible things. That’s why sources are important.
yep i cannot see it
neither can Daniel F or JD
I read a lot about the Rangers and I never saw Daniels say that
Thomas JD wants Alfaro gone and he wants hamels
I think every GM wants Hamels.
^This!
Not a single person is debating whether or not anyone wants Hamels, so I’m not sure why the other Daniel keeps insisting on including this as one of his points.
Me too
Red Sox dont want him, dodgers dont want him, cardinals dont want him, houston dont want him, Minnesota dont want him. The rangers want him
They would take him for free
The rangers have prospects and money
EVERY team has prospects and money.
The rangers have a deep farm system and are willing to give up prospects for top pitching and getting hamels would be big
Ok, now unless you can provide a source regarding the Rangers wanting to get rid of Alfaro, why on earth would the Rangers be willing to give up their best prospect at the position in which they have the greatest need?? Especially considering how deep the Rangers farm system is.
They want Alfaro gone
Source?
The sources are right in front of your noses Jon Daniels wants Alfaro gone
Where’s your source? You’ve been asked numerous times and only have spouted the same source-less nonsense. You need a source or you need to stop your nonsense.
I have plenty of sources sir so please you will be shocked
so where are they? why can’t you list them?
Go back to spring training of this year and look at Jon Daniels saying he wants hamels
We’ve searched the archives, we can’t find what you’re talking about. That’s why we need sources.
Did you read this in your Grays Sports Almanac?? The problem is that the DeLorean only went up to 2015, and that’s too soon for a 2015 version of the Almanac to have been written.
I think this guy is taking us all for a good spin 🙂
Im not joking
He has a DeLorean.
I dont
^ have sources.
I have sources but I dont read maganizes and stuff i believe
Wait, you have sources, but you don’t read stuff you believe… so your sources are ones that you don’t believe. WOW!!!
Now your justbeing sarcastic
I’m only repeating what you said. You said you don’t read stuff you believe.
I listen to mlb network all year and I believe it because harlod Reynolds likes the rangers and he says that the rangers will get hamels
Harold Reynolds is just giving his prediction, nothing more. He knows no more than Keith Law, Ken Rosenthal, or anyone else in the loop.
Rsosenthal has look at the rangers and Jon heyman has said that the rangers want hamels
Mr. Morairity, EVERY team wants Cole Hamels. PERIOD. What they are willing to give up in order to acquire him is the only difference. A team would run out a 6 man rotation if they could acquire 6 aces.
So your not believing that the rangers wanting cole hamels really?????
Did I say “every team except the Rangers”?
guarD guarantee you that the rangers will keep winning games and their chances at getting hamels harang and papelbon are good
All of those teams would take hamels
They wont take him red Sox have an ace
Yeah, no team has ever had or wanted more than 1 ace… NOT. Every team would take 6 aces if you made them available.
Only the rangers want hamelsthey dont have an ace
Darvish? Gallardo?
Dervish side for the year and gallardo is average but we need a true ace and that hamels
who
Clay Buccholz he is an ace
Gallardo has a better era. Buchholz was 8-11 with a ERA over 5 last year. That is hardly ace quality
They dont wanthamels because they wont give up swihart
they want Hamels but they don’t want to give the red sox too much
So your saying the rangers wont get hamels
No, the Rangers may give the Phillies more lower potential prospect
I believe this will happen Thomas
I believe they will get Hammels, but I do not think that Mazara, Thompson, Alfaro, or Williams will be involved
Luke Jackson will be involved
Yeah he did excite me but now I don’t know how good he will become
Trade him along with Lewis Smolinski and Alfaro to the Phillies for hamels harang and papelbon
I could see Ryan Rua being sent or Michael choice
This will happen rangers getting hamels
Daniel, I am not close mided. I will accept that Daniels doesn’t want him but you have to prove it.
They have passed up oppurtunities to sign free agents so I think that speaks volumes abput their confidence in Alfaro going forward
Does anbody have any updates on Jurickson Profar
He probably is in rehab
I hope he gets better, I still believe that he and Andrus or Odor could be our middle infield for a decade.
I heard that odor is getting better at the minors right now but our production at second is not good and our staff is not goo
Yeah Alberto won’t last forever
He wont last but the rangers want a good second baseman but not a whole lot of options out there in the trade market for that position
Zobrist maybe.
Schwarber, CJ Edwards and McKinney for Hamels and 25 mil. That’s a very fair trade for both sides IMO and I’ve said this a few times on here. I know Cubs fans don’t want to part with Schwarber, but they can’t fit everyone in the field. I get Schwarber will be a monster, but if the Cubs win a world series with Hamels nobody will care.To everyone saying trade Castro or Baez.. Neither have much value right now. Castro’s 74 wRC+ is pretty terrible. Baez oozes with potential, but has to cut down on the Ks. He’s 0-8 with 6 Ks in his last 2 games after cutting his K rate a lot in the first few weeks.
I’m tired of waiting. I know offense has been the weak point for the Cubs this year, but I fully expect that to pick up. Fowler has been good enough and Bryant/Rizzo have been great. If Castro and Soler pick it up they’ll be dangerous. Plus a rotation of Hamels, Lester, Arrieta & Hammel in the playoffs is nasty.
If the Phillies are packing $25M with Hamels… The Cubs will have competition from 29 other teams.
Speaking of TX and 2B, wonder if they might bite on Everth Cabrera? He’s not bad defensively and he has good speed. He’s been pretty bad since his suspension, however.
I’m sorry, but the Rangers/Phillies ties are old and used up. It’s just not going to happen. The Rangers prospects are proving themselves, and thus their price is going up. Mazara and Alfaro for Hamels? No way.
