There have been numerous reports about the Brewers trading veteran players and rebuilding. But they aren’t likely to do so this early in the season, if only because it’s hard to find trading partners, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes. If the Brewers don’t start trading immediately, though, it doesn’t sound like it will be because of any lack of eagerness on their part. “Very few teams are open to taking on money at this time of year. You get similar answers: ’We’re still looking at our club right now,'” says GM Doug Melvin. “The frustrating part is you would like to make some moves and do some things. But, early in the year, the only thing you can do is (between) your club and Triple-A.” Here are more notes from the National League.
- Brewers first baseman Adam Lind could make a good trade target for the Pirates, ESPN’s Buster Olney tweets. The Pirates could certainly use more offense, but they already have a left-handed first baseman in Pedro Alvarez, and he’s one of a handful of players on the team not hitting poorly. The Bucs could also move Alvarez to third base and have Josh Harrison go back to a utility role, although that seems unlikely, given Alvarez’s extreme problems with throwing last season.
- The Rockies have struggled in part because they haven’t been bold enough in their pursuit of starting pitching, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post writes. The team has been reluctant to make big commitments to starting pitchers since their deals with Mike Hampton and Denny Neagle went south, Saunders writes. Of course, one problem is that it’s very difficult to get free agent starting pitchers to play half their games in Coors Field. Instead, Saunders suggests the Rockies could make a bold trade for a top starting pitcher, the way the Royals did with James Shields.

Who exactly do the Rox have to offer in the Wil Myers spot of the deal? David Dahl seems to be a logical fit. After that, their next 3 top prospects are already pitchers.

What about Arenado?

They aren’t gonna trade him.

They are no longer prospects, but Blackmon and Dickerson are assets that should be available.

I have a solution to the issue with Alvarez throwing to 1b. Every ball that is hit to him, he can underhand it to the shortstop who can then throw it to first.

IDK, 4 HRs and 11 RBI is nice, but .219/.284/.438 is still hitting pretty poorly IMO. Then again, that’s kind of Alvarez’s norm anyway.

I was thinking the same thing about Lind once talk of the Brewers selling came up.
Lind is a solid first basemen who can play a little out field. He can post a decent average and can hit with some power. He would be pretty much an rental
Pedro can play some 3rd (if needed) and is learning first pretty fast though a game a few days ago he looked horrible. Hes got beast power and is getting more and more patient at the plate drawing more walks and striking out less in this year’s small sample but the progress started last year. Control through ’16.
Harrison is still swinging at garbage like he did last year.. only now he isn’t making as much contact and when he does it doesn’t find the holes like it did much of last year. He’s made a few mistakes at 3rd this year. J-Hay’s bat will come around some. I doubt he’ll me much over .300 if that but it won’t be .200 at the end of the season.
I wouldn’t’ mind seeing Lind, with bell taking over first sometime next year. Using Pedro at first and third (sparingly), Lind at first and corner OF on rest days and J-Hay at 3rd, 2nd, SS and Right. (with other bench utilities filling the holes)
Also trying to trading Pedro could clear a log jam if they use Bell at the start of the year.
Any trade with the brewers though should include sending hart back. It just doesn’t feel right having him on the pirates lol.

Adam Lind cannot play the outfield. He can barely play 1st base. He’s a DH stuck in the NL.

What is Hart? Harts range in the OF is gone and first isn’t too impressive either.
I would take Lind playing first over either pedro or hart right now mostly for the bat. If there was team control for another year going for Lind would be a no brainier.
I will say Pedro is better at first (so far) than I expected him to be.

Adam Lind hasn’t the played the outfield in 5 years, and he was terrible at it when he did play it. He’s now going on 32 with multiple back injuries in his history, as well as a broken foot, he couldn’t handle the outfield.
Corey Hart has historically been an average outfielder. He’s played it recently, his decline still leaves room for him to be a passable outfielder. Lind was terrible during his prime years. He’s not an option to play the outfield.

Hart has barley played out field the past few years either and when he did it wasn’t very good and has had surgery on both knees which has put a damper on his range.
You are probably spot on about Lind not being much of an OF option. But Hart isn’t much either. the big difference between them is Lind can hit 🙂
