The Yankees have claimed left-hander Matt Tracy off waivers from the Marlins and optioned him to Triple-A, according to a team press release.
The Yankees originally had Tracy in their system to open the season and only designated him for assignment 10 days ago. The Marlins claimed him last Saturday but designated him for assignment themselves earlier this week and sent him to Triple-A. Tracy didn’t pitch an inning while with the Marlins organization.
Formerly a 24th-round pick of the Yankees, Tracy made his Major League debut with the Yanks this season, yielding three unearned runs in two innings. He worked to a 3.76 ERA with 5.3 K/9 and 3.3 BB/9 in 150 2/3 innings at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last year.

At least he gets a bunch of frequent flyer miles out of all this…

They never should have lost him to begin with. I am really not a fan of the 10 day waiting period before calling up a 40 man guy. It cost the Reds two pitchers, it cost the Yankees this guy for a bit. Not to mention that it cost a few guys several days of service time. It doesn’t seem to be beneficial to anyone.

Wonder if the Marlins gave him a cap as a souvenir?
Joking aside, glad to see the Yanks got him back, hopefully it stays that way so he can focus on his job and not where to book a flight to next.

I’m guessing that they have an extra spot on the 40 man roster. If not I wonder who gets designated for assignment or moved to the 60 day D.L?

Gotta be Domingo German headed to the 60 day DL. He had Tommy John Surgery in early April. According to the Yankees team page, he’s not even on the DL yet
