Talk about a reliever market.

This is why I am wondering if it would behoove ATL to trade Arodys Vizcaino if he is closer much of 2016 to boost his value – allowing Grilli to come back from Achilles injury – then trading him for a nice return. If Grilli comes back well, his $3MM option would be reasonable or they could easily go after someone else with more money invested as of Jan 1, 2017 according to reports. However, ATL has enough high-upside closing options to be okay: Folty, Shae Simmons (returning from injury), Banuelos, Withrow, etc.
JDSchneck
Folty is a starter, changing him now would be detrimental to his arm
Jtrav54
Grilli plays in Toronto

Looks like compared to past years, next year’s free agent class isn’t as strong. Strasburg will be the prize from what it looks like.
wants to be a GM
This is a pretty underwhelming class. As of right now, 1. Strasburg 2. Carlos Gomez 3. Gio Gonzalez 4. Carlos Santana 5. Reddick (where do I put Aroldis?)
Jeff Todd
Just wanted to note: If Gio is in good enough shape to rate that highly, his option will be a no-brainer.
dswaim
I’m pretty sure Jose Bautista has to be ahead of most of those guys in your top 5
RunDMC
Now Cespedes has to be the top position player, unless Carlos Gomez has a huge year (or Cespedes bombs). I cannot imagine how much Chapman gets paid if he is closing 95% of the games for NYY. He should be breaking the RP contract record if NYY likes what they have.
Out of place Met fan
Curious to see how well Turner does in the market
dswaim
Very underwhelming OF class. There is really only 4 absolute starters. J. Bautista, J. Reddick, C. Gomez, and C. Rasmus. I guess Holliday, but he may have to DH as he’s approaching 40.
shysterguy
The 2016 MLB home run king would disagree….
greiunfioewfm
Notice he posted that 11 months ago though, when the 2016 MLB home run king had just been traded for Steve Clevenger after an extremely underwhelming season
shysterguy
Good point….noticed. Although, even after I posted, I cannot imagine many teams looking to sign him to a long term contract to play outfield.
adyo4552
The Yankees will finally rid themselves of Sabbathia and Teixeira; have to assume they’ll reapply that money elsewhere pretty quickly.
RunDMC
Would be crazy not to re-invest in Chapman, but I wonder if they’re saving up for the 2018 class. They have enough to go around though. Can’t wait to see Aaron Judge roaming the OF.
dpell40
No one mentioning Salvadore Perez? Dude is a straight up winner. As a giants fan, we have no need for him but that is a guy I would love in my clubhouse
Jeff Todd
See my comment re Gio. Applies all the more to Perez, who is almost certain not to be a FA but is on the list b/c he is technically controlled via option.
RunDMC
I cannot imagine Lucroy and Perez to remain as free agents with reasonable options on the table. However, I’ll be surprised if Lucroy finished 2016 with MIL. Question: does the team that trades for Lucroy also have that option on the table, or is that voided?
Logjammer D"Baggagecling
That FA class is weak compared to this past winter. Wow.
garrog1949
Braves need to trade with Yanks: Freeman,Teheran,Banuelos,Toussaint,Herbert,Ruiz, and Olivera(pay 20Mil. of his salary) FOR Judge,Sanchez,Severino and Bird. Good for both teams.
c0re4life
That is an absolutely Horrible trade for the yankees and they would no way give up the 2 of their TOP 3 prospects, A hard throwing 22 Year old in Severino and Bird who played less than half a year and hit 11 Homers for that garbage….
Also The yanks Traded Banuelos to the Braves for 2 relievers because of his elbow problems which it seems he is on the DL for right now…
B_MAC
Correction: Would be a horrible trade for Atlanta. It would take any 3 of the 4 Yanks prospects mentioned to even get Copppy to answer the phone for Freeman or Teheran. You are way overvaluing specs. Your going off name value alone. Severino will end up in the pen. Bird will end up a bench bat if he makes it at all. Judge may be something special but with the bust rate of “cant miss prospects” he still isnt a sure thing.
Teheran a 2/3 with upside. (People forget that at one point he was arguably the top rhp prospect) he is only 3 years older than severino. But also comes with a proven track record. Something severino lacks. Birds ceiling is freemans floor. So please explain how that would be horrible for the yankees.

And now Freeman has officially broken out into a 26 year old MVP candidate that trade looks even funnier.
People need to calm down with the 11 player trade ideas, those just don’t happen almost at all in real life and when they do, its usually for no star players or big name prospects – its like that TOR-HOU deal a couple years ago, I believe JA Happ was the only player worth noting in that deal.
socalbum
Pretty certain that Dodgers JP Howell should be on the list as LH reliever
krillin
Wow, I thought this was a week market already. then I read the list. There are some good ones out there, but man, this market is WEAK. Should make for an interesting winter meetings
jmi1950
With the NYY and the LAD each needing at least 2 SP’s this is the year to be on this list.
southi
I’m must be missing the name of Jim Johnson of the Braves under right handed relievers. According to spotrac he is under a one year expiring contract.
dswaim
Lefty specialist Jerry Blevins is a free agent as well
Not Xabial
I don’t believe RHP Carlos Torres is a free agent at the end of this season. Chris Capuano should be added to be LHP though.
rays111
Nothing but Right-handed relievers and left fielders
Donnie B
You can still make a couple of MLB teams out of these FA’s.
For example, say they gave 2 expansion teams the rights to take from the FA Market alone.
