The Indians have claimed outfielder J.B. Shuck off waivers from the Angels, MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian reports (Twitter link). Cleveland will send money back to Los Angeles to complete the deal.
The move is a homecoming for Shuck, who was born in Westerville, Ohio and went to Ohio State. The Halos designated Shuck for assignment three days ago, and now he joins a Tribe roster that is already pretty deep in left-handed hitting outfielders. Still, Shuck has experience at all three outfield positions and could be a longer-term option for Cleveland since he’s controlled through the 2018 season. Shuck has a .272/.316/.344 slash line over 658 career PA with the Angels and Astros.
With Shuck’s situation resolved, check out the MLB Trade Rumors DFA Tracker to follow which players are still in “DFA limbo.”

Shucks! I was hoping they’d keep him.

Is he any good ?

For a part timer he provides a little extra. Not flashy. More like a little guy who often defies the nay sayers.

Shuck, I knew he’d get picked up.
Vandals Took The Handles
The Indians can never have enough left-handed hitting OF’s!
Can never tell when 6 or 8 of them might get injured.

I like this pick up. We can always use another AAA outfielder. 🙁

It’s a great pick up for the Tribe! He should still be with the Angels but he’s not taking Trout’s spot. He’s not taking Hamilton’s spot (paying him 25M a year). He (Josh) needs to earn his money. That leaves right field open. Calhoun is doing a great job there, so I get why but then they bring up other players? In my opinion, he should have been one of them, if not on the 25 man roster all season. J.B. wants to play, this is truly a gift from the Angels to you! Enjoy, I wish he played for MY team! O:-)

Probably would have been a better option than Ichiro for the Yankees in right against right-handers but as the team’s start play today, the Indians are one game lower in the standings so they had priority over the Yankees in waiver claims.

Wow, thanks whomever just voted this up, 3 months after the fact.

We let him go after hitting a career high .320 for the Bees this year. I like J.B. and I’m sorry to see him go! I’m glad he’s going back home to the Tribe. I’m a native Californian and I have lived in Ohio for 16 years as well. I’ve seen many games there at Municipal Stadium and Jacobs Field. I haven’t been there since 2001. I wish him nothing but the best playing for chief Wahoo! Welcome home, J.B. The Angels made a huge mistake in letting you go. For the life of me, I don’t understand it from an Angels fan perspective. You had a great year, last year at the show and have performed great this year. I’ve been a fan for over 40 years now and I stick with my team, sometimes wondering decisions like this one. I do however, pull for the Indians when they’re not playing the Angels or anyone from the AL West that’s in contention lol. Mr. Shuck, you’re a great player and I hope things in the “Land of Cleves” go extremely well for you. Nothing would make me happier next all star game, than seeing you there…Chief-in-hand 🙂
