To the Dodgers for Puig, let’s just collect all the Cuban outfielders.
I don’t really want Shelby Miller, which is probably the realistic target x_x
Miller has some upside, I wouldn’t mind seeing Miller and prospects come back to Boston.
Miller isn’t a headliner, is what I meant.
You’re not getting Shelby Miller for Lackey.
Lackey has been better then Miller so far this year and has an option for league minimum this year. In all honesty it would take more then Miller to get a Lackey deal done.
It’ll be Grichuk or Piscotty plus a AAA pitcher.
You’re right, we’d better get more
So more for Lackey, but less for Lester?
Doubtful.
What about Brad Miller and either Paxton/Walker, Guerrero, Kivelhan, Morban, and John Hicks of the Mariners to acquire Matt Krmp or Andre Ethier if also rumored of being traded or Cespedes/Napoli?
Anthony Ranaudo is probably quite excited at the moment
I mean SOMEBODY has to start tomorrow, right?
Brock Holt will be in the rotation before long…
At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the next Tim Wakefield.
Red Sox re-acquire Alfredo Aceves
..and his alter ego. So you have two rotation spots filled.
His alter ego has a league average fastball, but his breaking stuff hasn’t progressed enough to be a plus a pitch. Not sure if he can get big league batters out enough to start.
only if he’s the new bat boy. Otherwise, no thanks!! haha
I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near Aceves with a bat…
Gotta be to the Cards. They got the tradeable prospects.
Umm, the Dodgers pretty stacked as well.
Yeah, but we don’t want to trade the higher rated ones. I think the Dodgers may target the Padres’ Benoit as their big move.
Dodgers just don’t want to trade there op 3, they can get lackey without giving up Pederson, Seager, or Urias
1 of the top needs to be included for Lackey
Lackey is going to the cards anyway, but he isn’t worth Seager, Urias, or Pederson. Not even close.
I am curious to see the asking price here considering the Royals backed away from a pitcher who is a big improvement to Guthrie and making league minimum next year.
The whole league minimum thing is getting old. He will cost 8mil or so a year on a 2 year extension.
Which would still be great value in todays market.
Yah but it isn’t free like everyone makes it out to be. 8mil is a lot for the Royals.
If it’s Miller, who starts today?
hey why not a TLR special reliever day! Haven’t had one of those in a while…
Lol. Martinez and Maness got extended yesterday, so it would be kinda hard since they are the two that could go the longest. Move up Waino?
Lackey is on normal rest today
Is he able to be in Cali in 3 hours?
where he’s going, he won’t need roads.
Lackey to the future
Trade deadline day games should be illegal
Nope. It’s a 5hr flight from the east coast so even if he was traded a few hrs ago and it hadn’t been reported he sure ain’t starting this afternoon in San Diego.
That’s not to say someone couldn’t have made it from Memphis though. I wonder if there was someone on a flight this morning “just in case” and they’re hanging out at the SD airport waiting for the call….
welp, if it’s the Cardinals I’m not thrilled to see who has to go because it’ll mean they’re not trading for a bat.
Guess Joe Kelly losing hard last night kinda means they’re gonna double down on new pitchers instead of grabbing a bat even though they’ve scored like 5 runs in the last 3 games.
3 runs in 3 games.
even worse! Especially against two teams playing for nothing.
why isn’t the Pirates on this?
I bet it’s Rowan Wick, and the Cards’ target was Lackey all along and not Peavy.
I will feel a lot better if this includes a really good prospect. Right now, I’m not feeling the other trade.
I think Boston will come out ok, I think Lester goes back to Boston next year.
I think Boston will come out ok, I think Lester goes back to Boston next year.
According to Rosenthal it’s not the dodgers.
Edes says its the Cards
Good trade for both the Cardinals and Red Sox since Masterson is having some issues w/ his injury.
its the cards
yeah it’s STL and not LAD
yeah it’s STL and not LAD
If the Cards trade Miller, am I the only one who thinks it’s a mistake? He had so much promise as a prospect, came through great for them last year, and has 1 bad year and they sour on him? That’s a bit shortsighted, imo. It’s not like he’d be the first player ever to “slump” during his “sophmore” season.
His peripheral stats are terrible and that is why I want no part of him as a Red Sox fan.
The writing was on the wall when he wasn’t a playoff starter last year.
Something about him Cardinal management doesn’t care for. Maybe it’s a mechanics thing, maybe an attitude thing, maybe they figure he’s going to regress to that guy who had one good pitch and couldn’t really make it all happen.
Regardless it’s clear he’s not “needed” on the team by now. Give him a fresh start, hope he’s not the next coming of Dan Haren who was also in a similar situation then turned into an ace.
He had shoulder problems late last year and that is why he was left off
He was 100% healthy the last two months of the season and was one of the better pitchers in September as the Cards won all 5 of his starts.
He was marginally better than Joe Kelly, significantly better than Lance Lynn at the time but still didn’t get the spot over either. There was “something else” going on.
Wonder the Seattle Mariners also involved in a three way trade Lackey & Napoli or Cespedes will be headed to the Emerald City. If the Cardinals, they can use James Paxton or Brandon Maurer as either will do well in the National League w/ Brad Miller coming off the bench & give Peralta a day off, plus few others. Change of scenery for Miller is definitely a must.
Besides the Cano and Lee deals the Mariners are known for never making big deals, so I wouldn’t be optimistic for a big deal if I were you…
Heard Ludwick, Kemp, and Ethier are also available, plus pitcher Tyson Ross if the M’s are interested in Ross as a third or fourth starting pitcher.
Immediate relief for the Yankees. Their three game series just got a little bit easier.
At this moment everyone is an ace against the Yankees, so it doesn’t really matter. They let guys like Mikolas and Nick Martinez dominate them and they’re both barely AAA pitchers at best.

red sox expected to get ML ready OF and pitcher back for lackey
There is no chance but I would go crazy if the OF was Taveras
If only… might be Piscotty thouigh
or not.. its Kelly and Craig
Ned Colletti probably burped up a meatball when he heard that Lester went to the A’s.
Got a feeling either Ethier or Kemp will be gone today from the Doggers.
Ethier makes sense. I hope you’re right.
Very little trade value in Ethier. Kemp’s the most likely, but I wonder if it’s top interest or last-resort options by teams. Now that Boston got Craig and Cespedes, Kemp’s suitors list has shortened.
Kemp’s not going anywhere.
If Kemp’s not going anywhere, Ethier’s definitely not going anywhere. At all.
Are the Mariners one of the teams heavily interested in either of them, Napoli, and/or Cespedes for what players?
Good question, the Mariners will make a deal.
Maybe both outfielders as Cespedes (rental) & Kemp or Ethier in a three way trade. Which of the two teams is rumored of getting Brad Miller or Nick Franklin, plus Corey Hart/Jesus Montero/Logan Morrison?

Sox get Kelly, Craig for Lackey
Whoa, that’s not too bad.
Wow.
