Blue Jays Designate Esmil Rogers For Assignment

By Jeff Todd | July 27, 2014 at 10:10am CDT

The Blue Jays have designated reliever Esmil Rogers for assignment, reports John Lott of the National Post (via Twitter). In a corresponding move, the team has activated Nolan Reimold from the DL.

This is now the second time this year that Rogers has found himself in DFA limbo; the last time he was outrighted to Triple-A. Since being added back to the roster on Tuesday, Rogers did not make an appearance, leaving his major league ERA at its previous 6.97 mark. He had been more successful in the upper minors, throwing to a 3.14 ERA in 48 2/3 Triple-A innings (including seven starts).

Okay AA. Stop messing around and get a trade or 2 done. We are only 3 games out and with the way the division is we need to do something!! I want to have faith in you,but all this talk is bumming a guy out. I am glad that you didn’t sign Jimenez, but let’s get a starter and either another outfielder or an infielder!! Just do something!!

How is AA ‘messing around?’ It takes (at least) 2 teams to make a trade happen, and the overall lack of serious trades (there’s been what, 3 all month?) should show that it’s a sellers market, not a buyers market.

Also, the Jays do NOT need another starter, their pitching help needs to be for the ‘pen.

Who do you think you are with your logic and reasoning? Be Impatient and unreasonable like the rest of the fan base!!

I just don’t know why AA doesn’t go to the options menu and turn fair trades off like the rest of the arm chair GMs can.

One has to wonder what prompted this DFA? I mean Esmil Rogers was called up, didn’t do a thing and then he’s DFA’d again. OK AA, making room for someone?

If you read the article, it says, they activated Reimold. So yes, they were making room for him.

They had to free up a space on he 25 man to activate Reimold and Rogers was out of options… so they had to DFA him (or option one of their players on the 25 with options).

With DFAing Rogers: you also free up a spot on the 40.

Carrying 8 relievers was nuts and Rogers was the weakest link. These guys really need a right-handed power bat ala Adrian Beltre.

And to think Cleveland gave the Rockies cash to get this guy, then we get Gomes and Aviles for him. One deal that actually panned out for Antonetti. Thank you, AA. 😉
