FEBRUARY 12: Hand has cleared waivers and been outrighted, tweets Brewers Senior Director of Media Relations Mike Vassallo (hat tip to Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com). Hand will receive an invitation to the big club's Spring Training camp.
FEBRUARY 7: The Brewers have designated righty Donovan Hand for assignment to clear a roster spot for Francisco Rodriguez, the club announced. The 27-year-old got his first taste of the big leagues last year.
In 31 appearances, seven of them starts, Hand pitched to a 3.69 ERA in 68 1/3 innings for the Brewers in 2013. He posted 4.9 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in that stretch. Hand has been solid at all levels as a professional, never allowing more than four earned runs per nine in a given season. In 44 Triple-A appearances in 2012, he threw 79 2/3 innings of 3.84 ball; last year, in 35 2/3 innnings at the highest minor league level, he notched a 3.28 mark.
Guess he won’t be coming in handy anytime soon.
Aloha, Mr. Hand.
This is a great move, Hand(s) down…
I hope to retain Hand in the minors.
Oh wait, we’re making puns.
Keep him in triple A and call him up midseason in case we need a Hand?
What’s with all these hand puns. I can’t “hand”le them anymore!
Anyone else here see kendrys morales signing with the brewers?..
I thought about that being a possibility for quite some time now seeing how Roenicke is familiar with him from his Angels days but he is simply not worth the draft pick we’d have to forfeit to get him, I would rather head forward with Reynolds/Overbay/Francisco/Halton/Morris. I think we’ll be fine there.
No chance. Brewers are pretty much done spending. They are not going to shell out the money to get him nor do they want to surrender a 1st round pick to get him
Also their payroll is around $90 million, which is pretty much their limit.
Isn’t it a protected 1st round pick? I can see him playing 1st and bring much better than Reynolds.
The Brewers will have the 12th pick, outside of the top 10 protected picks. As for Morales himself, there are doubts as to his ability to play the field for an entire season, so him going to an NL team is doubtful unless he signs dirt cheap.
Won’t be handing him the reins any time soon I guess
Anyone want to give hand a job?
I’m so glad I resisted any temptation to add to this list of puns: I wouldn’t want to have had a hand in such ridiculousness.
Well he wasn’t dealt the best hand. He should’ve gotten a better “hand”le on things in the majors even though he pitched to a “hand”y 3.69 ERA.
Hope L.A Angeles G.M Di Pietro signs Donovan Hand to a Major League Contract.
