Here are today's minor moves from around baseball.
- The Orioles have announced the signing of outfielder Quintin Berry to a minor-league deal with a spring training invitation. Berry, 29, played for three different Triple-A teams in 2013, hitting .191/.309/.257 in 381 plate appearances between them. He also appeared in 13 regular-season games and three postseason games with the Red Sox. In 2012, he played in 94 games for the Tigers, during which he stole 21 bases without being caught.
I would like to see this guy return to how well he played with the Tigers in 2012. Kind of a shame he hasn’t found his bat at all, as he plays good defense and at the very least is a great pinch-runner.
As someone who watched him in those 90-something games, he does not play “good defense.” He plays defense like Juan Pierre.
He is lots of fun to watch while he’s on the bases. Could use some D and hitting help.
Tony Gwynn couldn’t help him!
Meaning he gets terrible reads on flyballs and uses his superior speed to make up the distance when he finally figures out where it’s going to land?
Hey, Shane Victorino has been getting by on that for years. He has a cannon for an arm to offset that though. But he is far from the most natural OF I have ever seen.
How well he played? That statement is a joke right? Berry is Worthless with a bat!
And that concludes the Orioles off season.
Too bad your owner is such a cheapskate! You’ve got a great ballpark, very good GM and Manager, but with that owner you’ve got no chance of winning it all.
There’s always a chance when you have Ryan Flaherty.
He was also on the World Series roster with the Red Sox and even stole a base, so at least he can do the one thing he’s good at in high-leverage situations
We are going to pinch run the Red Sox into the ground.
I don’t know why but that made me chuckle! Thanks.
Close friends with Adam Jones…
Too bad he cant hit and will not be around long for them to renew their friendship!
I wish we could make a few big signings cause these signs are actually really good if you have a complete major league team but the Orioles dont have that yet
Good luck with him Baltimore. He is electric on the basepaths! If he could get his bat together he’d be a pretty good ballplayer.
THUNDERCLAP!!!! This guy is one of my favorite players ever, so fun, so exciting, so fast, and he loves the game. He is a poor hitter, with no plate discipline, but he can square up the ball occasionally, he is the best base runner I have seen in a while, and plays decent defense
If he steals 27 bases in a row, he can break Vince Coleman’s record of 50. But it won’t count I suppose, since Coleman didn’t take three calendar years to do it.
