The Rangers announced that they have designated first baseman Chris McGuiness for assignment in order to clear a 40-man roster spot for Shin-Soo Choo, whose seven-year deal is now official.
McGuiness, 25, made his big league debut in 2013, batting .176/.176/.206 in 34 plate appearances. Originally acquired from the Red Sox in the trade that sent Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Red Sox, McGuiness batted .246/.369/.423 with 11 homers in 436 plate appearances at Triple-A Round Rock last season.

I would like the A’s to take gamble on him rather than keep Barton around…

so i guess this officially officializes the official signing?

The Indians selected him in the 2013 rule-5 draft. I’d be surprised if he clears waivers.

Sorry, 2012.

I wish we wouldn’t lose McGuiness, but yeah doubt he makes it thru.

I agree, wish we were not going to lose him but I know somebody will pick him up….. He’s a fun guy to watch in Round Rock

I can see Milwaukee taking a chance on him. I think that he and Taylor Green should compete for the starters job in camp. Milwaukee has the pirates reds and cardinals in their division, so their playoff chances are unlikely. Why not try and develop a first baseman rather than give up a tip 25 prospect for Ike Davis. Build for the future. With Segura, Davis, and Scooter and mike blazek, why not build for the future. Chris can get on base, hit homers and field. He’s a potential middle of the order guy, and at just 25 years old, he is perfect for this team, that has some great young talent. He would be an excellent compliment.
