Ozzie Guillen could lose his job after a disappointing debut season in Miami. The Marlins are thinking about firing Guillen and have contacted at least one potential replacement, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.
The Marlins plan to fire president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest and replace him with assistant GM and VP of player personnel Dan Jennings, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported yesterday. However, Rosenthal reports that Miami is more likely to dismiss Guillen than re-structure its front office. The Marlins haven’t made a definitive decision regarding Guillen, Rosenthal writes. Owner Jeffrey Loria will make the final call.
The Marlins would likely hire a low-priced alternative if they dismiss Guillen, according to Rosenthal. Former Marlins third baseman Mike Lowell has been discussed as a replacement, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reported yesterday. Nationals third base coach Bo Porter and Padres special assistant Brad Ausmus are alternate candidates, Rosenthal adds.

The Cuban national team could use a manager.

I thought it was a mistake in the first place. The Marlins deserve a better manager.
bacboris
Why is that? What exactly about that situation screams that they DESERVE a better manager?

Why does everyone need to be reminded Guillen upset 20% of the local population with racial insult before he even BEGAN his job at Miami?
He can get away with his attitude and poor behavior in Chicago perhaps, but in a diverse population, such as in Miami, he was a accident waiting to happen and wasn’t even doing his job before he proved most nay sayers correct.

Does this mean Jack McKeon is coming back? Mike Lowell? Ha!
Let_My_Cameron_Go
I could only imagine that press conference if McKeon was hired again…
“Well, I got a phone call from Jerry Lora that they just let go of their previous manager named Oscar Guillen, and asked me if I would like to manage the Florida Marlins again…”
Austin Nevers
I want the Marlins to give him one more season to turn it around but if he’s hired I want Mike Lowell to manage
cubsfan97
Please cubs pick him up!

Never.
Ever.
In a million years.

Epstein is smart enough to avoid Guillen, as is most GM’s with at least 1 brain cell.
jwsox
ozzie has stated time and time again he hates wrigley he would never manage there
Gumby65
This would be so un-Marlins like to make hasty moves.
Kevin Chambers
I think with the turn around of the White Sox, and the absolute suckeyness of the Marlins it just verifies that Ozzie is a horrible Manager.
elscorchot
I don’t think it’s right to fire Ozzie for personnel blunders
NickinIthaca
The GM is generally the one to get fired for personnel blunders…

hard to say if anyone else could have done better with that lineup

the line up to start the season was a great line, i know it was on paper but still, a manager with half a brain could have gotten them to at least limp into the 2nd wild card. Ozzies great at first but his attitued wears thin fast on people. Just watching his speech to his player on the franchise made me not miss him as a whitesox fan. Its awesome to have this firery guy who does not have a care in the world but in all reality in baseball which is more of an individual gme and less of a team game where managers dont really do all that much during the game his attitude and throwing his players under the buss can be annoying at times. With baseball the manager has to be, in my opinion, 70% therapist, 30% baseball guy and ozzie has never been known to be a therapist type guy which is why his players get tired of him fast, just look at the whitesox, same team with exception of a few players and it would be a shock if they miss the playoffs
CitizenLoonie
I think the White Sox won a World Series in spite of Guillen. His vocal attacks on players in the media didn’t earn him any love either. According to a poll of MLB players Guillen was mentioned as the least liked manager in all of baseball.
NYPOTENCE
Personally I would dismiss Guillen as well as this team had high-levels of talent and was still unable to go anywhere. I think they need more of a cool and collected manager such as Ventura that will teach these players discipline and how one must play the game.
mlbscout6
I think Mike Redmond and Mike Lowell would make excellent managers. Brad Ausmus as well, but I don’t think he’s looking to manage just yet. Stay away from Bo Porter at all costs.
