The Giants have designated Steve Edlefsen for assignment, reports Hank Schulman of The San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter). The move clears a 40-man roster spot for Yusmeiro Petit.
Edlefsen, 27, has made 27 relief appearances for San Francisco over the last two seasons, pitching to a 6.75 ERA with more walks (16) than strikeouts (15) in 26 2/3 innings. The right-hander owns a 3.79 ERA in 38 relief innings down in Triple-A this year.
That should be Petit. Machi is already on the 40-man roster.
How long til the Cubbies claim him? I hope next year is better for the north siders.
This is an outrage.
He’s like a poor man’s Brandon League. If he can harness that two-seamer he’d be pretty good.
his fastball can’t touch brandon league’s. Edlefsen looked very bad in mostly every outing i saw him pitch with the giants.
Agreed. A VERY poor man’s Brandon League.
Actually have seen him throw in person. Best 2 seamer I’ve probably ever seen. Like Rainy Perez said, if he can figure that out he’s an instant elite big league setup man
Petit is the man!!
Really? This is one of the top stories in MLBTR? Do regular readers not have a life? :^D
Good luck to Edlefsen. I read about how good his slider was in BA, best in system, but unfortunately it never turned out for him.
