The Diamondbacks have designated Cole Gillespie for assignment, the team announced. The move creates room on the roster for Mike Jacobs.
Gillespie, 28, hit .308/.390/.494 with 13 homers in 510 plate appearances for Arizona's Triple-A affiliate this season. He's a career .236/.292/.391 hitter in 120 big league plate appearances, which span the 2010-2011 seasons. The D'Backs originally acquired Gillespie from the Brewers for Felipe Lopez back in 2009.

Looks like a good little outfielder my Astros should snag. Decent average, walks in AAA. He is 28 but looks better then a few on the 40 man.

He really isn’t a bad 4th outfielder.

Given Crane’s M.O. I’m sure he’ll consider it. Think Gillespie is destined to be a perpetual AAAA player though, unfortunately.

I just looked at Jacobs’ minor league stats for the past two seasons. He *walked* some! That’s new.
