The Yankees have released Russell Branyan, according to Donnie Collins of the Scranton Times-Tribune (via Twitter). The veteran was with the club's Triple-A affiliate for the bulk of the year.
Branyan, 36, missed considerable time with back issues this season. The slugger played in just 33 games for Scranton Wilkes-Barre but posted an impressive .309/.438/.655 slash line with eleven homers. Branyan has not played in a game since July 6, when ESPN.com's Buster Olney suggested that he might have played his way into drawing trade interest.

A few years ago this was the Indians “big” offseason upgrade. He was mediocre as expected, but surprisingly the front office was able to trade him to the Mariners for Zeke Carerra (a potential solid 4th outfielder). It seems like every time we trade with the Mariners, we get something good in return. The exception of course was Luis Valbuena.

Dude could rake in the right ballpark, such as NYS, but he won’t get a chance to play, as usual.

Tell it bro.Russ ranks 15th all time in h.r. frequency with a dinger every 14.8 at bats.194 taters in less than 3,000[2,954]at bats.As a part time player averaged 30 homers,71 ribs every 449 at bats. And has only had 1 year with more than 400 at bats![2009,31 homers in 431 ab’s]

Could Branyan be a fit for the Dodgers ???
Gary Roberti
EVERYONE in the Major Leagues is a fit for the Dodgers!…I hear they’re looking to upgrade at the ‘ball boy’ position before the playoffs start. Buster Olney says they’re in talks with the Yankees, Phillies, and the Angels on a few ‘ball girls’ to round out their field roster. After that, they’re concentrating on the Grounds Crews next….and the rumor are they’re talking with Arizona about their backup crew.
