The Rays designated infielder Brooks Conrad to create 40-man roster space for Evan Longoria, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports (on Twitter). Longoria injured his hamstring on April 30th and has been on the disabled list ever since.
The Rays claimed Conrad off of waivers from Milwaukee on June 21st and manager Joe Maddon has played the 32-year-old at second and third since acquiring him. In 105 total plate appearances this year, Conrad has a .133/.181/.306 batting line. However, he has a career line of .207/.278/.400 in five MLB seasons.
Nice to see that Longoria is back & healthy.
He wont be fielding just DHing
I thought we already designated Will Rhymes for this purpose?
Will Rhymes was optioned to Durham. He’s still on the 40-man roster.
The Giants should erect a statue in this guy’s honor.
They just sent Rhymes down yesterday…I thought that was for Longoria… PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let it be Sean Rodriguez sent out when Luke Scott comes off the DL…..
I guess its to remove Conrad off the 40 man….
It’s cool, he’s still a .207 career hitter…
Conrad was horrible this season. However, he’s been only slightly less horrible for his career. BN-S really knows how to make lemonade out of some pretty rotten lemons. Good job!
better now, than after he costs you a playoff series
Wasn’t has fault he was forced to do something he couldn’t do. Is Troy Glaus a playoff hero just because the ball was hit to him directly with his 1 foot range at 3B?
I think that was moreso his .385/.467/.846 line during the world series.
It’s mostly Braves fans who are angry at Conrad- so I pointed out the Glaus heroics from that series, which mostly involved getting the ball hit right to him. That’s not a slam on Troy Glaus- he was washed up hard in Atl but did what he could and had plenty of heart.
He was a GREAT Giant!
