The latest outright assignments from around MLB…
- The Giants announced that they outrighted Emmanuel Burriss to Triple-A after he cleared waivers (Twitter link). The Giants designated the infielder for assignment four days ago after he posted a .214/.273/.221 batting line in 144 plate appearances.

Agent: Getting DFA’d isn’t a bad thing, another team will see your value and pick you up and you’ll get more playing time elsewhere.
Burriss: You think so?
Agent: I know so.
Burriss: …Dude, I just read I cleared waivers.
Agent: Oh. ..well that sucks.

Well he has the option of refusing an assignment to AAA and just becoming a free agent. But with the lack of success he’s had lately, I don’t who would give him any playing time…

can’t we just release him instead of indefinitely paying him $600k a year to be at AAA? Seriously, my dead grandmother hits for more power than him

I would assume he’s on a split contract. Since he is now off the 40-man roster he will not receive major league wages.

Damn! Thought we were rid of him!!

Didn’t the Giants cut Burress after the gun incident in 2008?

Pheeeew! This is great news. I was really fearful that we were going to lose another injury prone, weak hitting position player. It’s a shame when guys with speed can’t hit the ball out of the infield or coax a walk every now and then.

Darn. I was hoping the Nats would bring back the local kid for much needed infield depth

Phew. For a moment, I thought they had cut Hannibal Burress.
